The resolution is calculated andstored for documentation in theanalysis LOG file within each MIDtime window.

This unique feature makes youranalysis perfectly reliable. It iseasy to meet the quality controlrequirements of different analyticalmethods.

EPA Method 1668for PCB analysis

EPA Method 1668for PCB analysis

Dioxin and PCB analyses arefrequently requested for the samesample. Therefore, it is mandatoryto change GC methods andmultiple ion detection (MID) setupswithin the same analysis sequence.

With the MAT 95 XP, methods canbe changed, even in an unattend-ed overnight sequence. Highestflexibility is achieved with turnkeysolutions for quantification of alldioxins and PCBs.

Measurement quality is closelyrelated to reproducibility. Perform-ing the same PCB measurement25 times in fully automated mode,a standard deviation of less than6 % is achieved routinely.

Similar to dioxins and furans, BFRsenter the same ecological chainand are found in biological sampleslike water, milk or air.

The brominated diphenylethers(PBrDPE), one important class of

BFRs, are of high interest becauseof their similarity to PCBs.

Due to the fragmentation of thePBrDPE (loss of 2 Br), some ionswould require resolution power of45,000 for complete separation.

To obtain unambiguous resultsat lower resolution (R=10,000) itis advantageous to measure eithertwo ratio masses or a high massmolecular ion.

Analysis of Toxaphenesby negative chemical ionization

Analysis of Toxaphenesby negative chemical ionization

Toxaphenes were applied world-wide as pesticides until banned inthe early ‘90s. Because of theirslow degradation it is a necessity toanalyze these toxic compounds inour food chain, especially in fish.

Low level detection can only beaccomplished by negative chemicalionization (NCI) at low ion sourcetemperatures.

The MAT 95 XP excels at NCI: itcan reproducibly detect and quan-tify at low femtogram levels. Theresponse curve shows linearity forBGVV 2 toxaphene standard over4 orders of magnitude.

The Target Compound Quanti-fication program was developedspecially for isotope dilution quan-tification. User interaction allowsfor the highest level of flexibilty.

A starting package containinga wide variety of quan files, in

accordance with methods such asEPA1613 or EN1948, is provided.

Together with the Response andReporter program the new TargetCompound Quantification packageis designed for both, beginnersand advanced users, meeting the

needs of any analytical laboratory.

For email reporting, sample resultscan be saved by mouse click eitheras HTML documents (TargetCompound Quantification) or asWord documents (Reporter). 11

Training

Although Thermo Finnigan’s instruments are easy to use, their full potential can best be achieved after complete famil-iarization. Training courses are conducted by experiencedpersonnel. The MAT 95 XP operating manual should allow aneasy start with the different measuring modes.

Support

Local users’ meetings in different countries provide the latestinformation about developments and applications.

Engineers and application chemists are available for supportand discussions whether they are attending a users’ meeting, aconference or a trade show. For any support, you have directaccess by telephone, telefax or internet.

Dioxin Special

For a quick start with your new high resolution massspectrometer we offer three to five days of on-site training.Furthermore, Thermo Finnigan can arrange training for samplecollection, clean-up of samples and laboratory organization.
