Impranil® eco rangeHigh performance enabled by nature: New bio-based polyurethane dispersions for textile coatings

Sustainability is increasingly impacting on the product and raw-material purchasing decisions of customers, brand owners, and consumers. With biomass already the raw material basis for around 10 % of all chemical products, new technologies, cooperative agreements and product devel-opments will enable the textile coating industry to move for-ward to use more products based on renewable resources.

Covestro has developed a technology to raise the content of renewable resources in polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) to 65 %. This makes new levels of sustainability possible for synthetic leather and other fabrics. Thanks to this develop-ment it is now possible for manufacturers to produce coated fabrics with a low content of fossil-based raw materials in each layer.

These bio-based products offer the same level of properties as products based on traditional raw materials.

Key benefits of Impranil® eco PUDs*:• 43 % – 65 % renewable carbon content derived from

non-fossil-based inputs, i.e. not in direct competition with the food chain.

Impranil®

• Can be used in every layer of the production of synthetic materials or coated textiles because they are based on aliphatic diisocyanates.

• 100 % drop-in of existing Impranil® PUDs, i.e. low reformu-lation effort

• Same high performance standards, even though they are partially based on biomass.
