To my young sons, this was an exciting adventure story about a boy transported back in time to the 14th century, but I saw it as a fairly well crafted scheme to introduce children to medieval life and times. It would be a good way to start a unit on medieval history. After reading it, my boys went to the Internet and discovered there really is a Carreg Cennen Castle in Wales--and they want to visit it someday! 11+ Knights and Castles $4.99 by Mary Pope Osborne. A Magic Tree House Research and Study Guide. Full of interesting facts, research ideas, study helps, Internet links and lots of detailed drawings. 6-9 Men of Iron $15.95 hard cover. by Howard Pyle. Through hard work and self control, young Myles eventually achieves knighthood and wins back the good name and fortune of his disgraced father while also winning the attentions of a lovely young lady.
