iPort (Sonance stand 1K57) is introducing two new products in its Control Mount Series for the Apple iPad and iPod touch. The CM2000 Control Mount for iPad and the CM200 Control Mount for iPod touch both integrate handheld Apple touchscreen products in an attractive in-wall frame, transforming them into in-wall touchscreens for display of weather, news, stocks and many other preferred apps. The CM200 also transforms the iPod touch into an in-wall Internet radio source, and easily connects to any stereo or AV receiver. Users can download their choice of Internet radio apps available in the App Store and play the audio back through any connected stereo system.

LightingAmong the products that Niko (stand 5O82) is demonstrating is the new Mysterious wave control switch. The new switch does not have to be touched to turn the light on or off, but is activated by waving. Niko Mysterious wave control is built into the wall and is almost invisible, offering designers new possibilities to be creative with materials. At a distance of 50cm, the switch edges light up, and a wave within 10cm of the switch will activate it. This technology has already been proven in applications including alarm systems and movement detectors in cars, and Niko has added approach sensors, so that switches recognise when somebody is close by.

Philips Dynalite (stand 1K18) is demonstrating the latest in motorised blinds and lighting control, remote-controlled integrated lighting and AV control systems. Visitors can gain insight into the functionality of the Philips Dynalite solution-set, as well as behind-the-scenes set-up and programming using EnvisionProject (EP) software for icon-driven menus and commissioning templates. Also on show is Philips Dynalite’s 100BT Ethernet gateway that provides connectivity between DyNet, Philips Dynalite control systems and third-party technologies; the Philips Dynalite’s DIN-rail-mountable multipurpose controller featuring plug-in

output cards; the Revolution 2 user control panels with slimline design and unlimited decor-matching flexibility; the Dynalite DTP100 and DTP170 colour touchscreens; and the recently-launched DynamicTouch iPhone/iPad application. The Philips Dynalite team will also be on hand to discuss the benefits of using a Dynalite Dimension Dealer.

Lutron (stand 5N86) is showcasing energy-efficient light solutions as well as demonstrating the latest functionality of its HomeWorks, GRAFIK Eye QS and blinds and shades solutions. The GRAFIK Eye QS now supports KNX integration, thus offering installers the potential to link their technology to an even wider range of applications. For retrofit, Lutron is demonstrating the Single AV Room Solution including GRAFIK Eye QS Wireless, linked by RF wireless technology to daylight sensors, Lutron’s Radio Powr Savr wireless occupancy sensor, and its Sivoia QS curtain control system. To help with design, the Lutron QS Designer software allows installers to lay out their lighting system on-screen, as well as easily add components such as occupancy sensors, integration devices, power modules and window shade components.

Multiroom audio and video

ATON (AVC Group stand 1L90) is introducing the AH66T Kit as an affordable pre-programmed multiroom audio solution with lighting control. It features the AH66T Multi-Source Multi-Zone Controller, plus six OLED2 full-colour touchpads, with built-in programming to run sources such as the iPort and Lutron RadioRA 2 for a first-time or add-on audio system with iPod and lighting control capability. The AH66T has a built-in, RDS-enabled AM/FM tuner plus six additional sources, rated at 60W per zone with a line-level pre-output for subzones. The controller includes a dedicated IR input for every zone with a full, discrete IR code set, and full two-way RS-232 control of third-party devices where a separate multiroom solution is required.

Integrated security and home automation manufacturer Home Automation, Inc. (HAI) (Aldous stand 5R118) is demonstrating the new Hi-Fi 2 multiroom audio system that uses standard CAT5 and speaker cable. The base Hi-Fi 2 system features 8 zones and 8 sources and may be expanded to 16 zones. Its OLED Volume-Source Control (VSC) features four buttons for volume, source, and power, and it can display source name, volume bar chart, bass, treble, balance and more, as well as act as an IR repeater for source component control. The VSC supports Unicode and renders the text as an image, allowing dealers to customise it with all of HAI’s currently-supported foreign languages.

Xantech (AVC Group stand 1L90) is showing the MX88 IP-enabled multiroom AV controller for iPad, a web-enabled product that allows an iPad to control an entire Xantech multiroom AV system. Meanwhile Niles Audio (AVC Group stand 1L90) is showing the IntelliControl ICS IM-NET Module, the latest in a growing family of source integration modules for the GXR2 MultiZone Receiver. IM-NET plays popular digital music file formats stored on a home network and streams music from Internet radio services.

DigitalMedia 8G from Crestron (stands 1F2, 1F6 and 1F7) provides one-wire, high-output, ultra-high-speed and long-distance transmission of all data, Ethernet and control, plus analogue and digital AV signals. The new Crestron digital 24x8 multiroom audio system with built-in Sonnex audio transport technology, blends high-performance digital audio processing, full-matrix switching and high-powered amplification into a single component.

Elite Screens (stand 1J123) is launching the Lunette series of curved fixed-frame projection screens. Designed to give viewers the sensation of being physically drawn into the film, the curved design also eliminates a visual artefact known as the ‘pincushion effect’, which is commonly experienced when projecting in a 2.35:1 (widescreen) format.

Kaleidescape (stand 1K79) is offering a Blu-ray server that stores exact copies of the user’s Blu-ray discs on its hard drives, and then allows instant random access to the content, eliminating irritating start up times and complicated menus.

Runco (room E102) is launching the 3Dimension Series projectors. These integrate 3D visualisation technology based on the science of how the human eye and brain process actual depth and dimension in real life. The company is also showcasing new additions to its LightStyle Series with two new 3-chip DLP 1080p projectors, alongside its ultra-thin 3D-ready Vistage displays.

AV componentsVidaBox (stand 9F138) is showcasing products which combine into a complete AV distribution system. Highlights include the LiivController with vAutomation 2.0 which turns any iPad into a touchscreen control interface; stylish iPad on-wall mounts with iPower charging stations; and the latest additions to the VidaBox family of Blu-ray and DVD media extenders, including the compact RoomClientV2 and ThinClientV2.

The eco-friendly LEDs consume up to 40% less energy than conventional sets and run on 24V power so they can be mounted safely in any environment. Also included are DVB-T2 tuners for Freeview/MPEG-4 for UK/Europe, and ATSC tuners for US markets.

For those with a need to be different and a desire for the latest innovative technology, Pro Display (stand 11H85) offers a number of unique screen technologies that can become an integral part of the home, including Switchable Intelligent Glass, Mirrorvision glass overlays, Sound Design flat panel art speakers and decorative front and rear projection screens.

LoudspeakersStealth Acoustics (stand 5O105) has taken its latest invisible speaker technology and placed it in a freestanding enclosure. The result is MONOLITH, a uniquely form-factored high-end loudspeaker for critical listeners and/or those who want a unique and customisable loudspeaker look. Unlike other freestanders, MONOLITH has no exposed drivers or grille, but a flat radiating surface finished with real hardwood of various species, custom graphics, or paint. MONOLITH is based on Stealth’s latest LR4 technology, which is also used in the stand’s ‘Screen in the Sky’ 10-foot projection screen exhibit that radiates sound directly from the screen. Also on show is the LinearResponse series of invisible in-wall or in-ceiling speakers with an all-new face-panel material and dramatically enhanced sound.
