Sierra Vista Spring Tour The HVMTC overnight tour this year was to the area around Sierra Vista in southeast Arizona. The tour
was from March 8 thru 11, centered at the Windemere Hotel in Sierra Vista, We had an excellent turn out
of cars, some 23 Model T's and three Model A's, accompanied by 58 people, In the event a couple of cars
didn't show up on the first day, but we had a extra car, Jim & Doris Martin decided to join the fun.

The first day was a fairly simple short run to the old mining town of Bisbee. Most ate lunch at the Copper
Queen Hotel and there were antique vehicles parked everywhere . The run back took the cars over Mule
The sign for the Copper Queen Hotel One of the T's leaving up Tombstone Canyon
The 1890's Stagecoach in Tombstone Some of T's parked in Tombstone

Pass to the North of town, thank goodness for Ruckstell axle. The second day was a run up to Kartchner
Caverns, followed by lunch in Benson then a run down to Tombstone. Here we visited the antique stores
More T's at Hotrods, including Howard's Lucky #7 A Centerdoor in front of a well know Roadster
We allowed Model A's including Craig & Barbara's The V8 motor of a Toyota NASCAR Racer

and the ice cream stores. This was followed by a 16 mile run back to Sierra Vista. The third day was the
longest mileage of the tour, 70 odd miles each way to the outskirts of Tucson to visit Hotrods of Old Veil.
The route included some spectacular scenery The 6% hill continued up.....
That dot is Rich Seymour's 1914 Touring The views thru the Army Post were spectacular
Early arrivals at the Gadsden Hotel We had reserved parking at the Gadsden

This modern restoration shop is very well equipped, indeed Humble Howard considered a rebuild of his
cooling system... The run was quite spectacular, rising to over 5000 feet, and then back through the Army
Fort into Sierra Vista. The final day was a run out to Douglas where we had an excellent lunch at the
Gadsden Hotel, which was built in 1907. Here we had a group photo taken and the local paper took a
picture of the cars parked in front of the Hotel.. By now the number of running cars was down to 20, but all
the A's were still chugging along. One of the A's had driven down from Utah, they would have won the
"Furthest Distance" driven award, while Howard would have won the "Most Trouble" award for his
constant cooling issues.
The final table moving to the buffet The border fence, from San Diego to Brownsville!
While at lunch Norm spoke to the group, thanking Tony & Heather for organizing the tour and Jim
presented Tony with a unique gas can to commemorate when he ran out of gas on a Speedster Run in this
area some years ago.
The roads in the area are almost perfect for Model T's, fairly flat, the steepest grade was 6%, and for the
most part quite wide, with room for moderns to overtake. It was a fun four days touring, well worth all the
work in setting it up.

Editor Notes
The newsletter is bigger this month with all the pictures from Sierra Vista, so it may take some
time to download. The San Diego Auto museum is offering special membership option to
members of affiliated club. It costs $25 for the year and allows unlimited admission to the San
Diego Auto Museum for two people and four guest passes. Sounds like a good deal, see the
brochure later in the newsletter.
