In Hidden Dimension you take control of a baseship, capable of launching ships, deploying structures and performing various actions. These ships, structures and actions are represented by cards. Ships are used to defend your baseship against attacks from your opponent, but they can also attack your opponent’s base or ships. Structures are upgrades of your base that mainly provide you with the energy needed to launch your ships or perform actions, but can also increase the defensive or offensive potential of your base. Actions provide you with various ways of harming your opponent or upgrading your ships and much more. You will encounter up to eight different races in Hidden Dimensions, each having their own cards, represented by a unique colour and preferred energy type. You can have a maximum of 7 ships and 5 structures on the field at once. The structures remain attached to your base, while the ships will defend it against attacks from your opponent. To the right you have a panel showing how much of each energy type you currently have available. At the bottom left you can see how much HP your base has left and how many cards are left in your deck. Next to that you see the maximum 8 cards you currently have in your hand. To launch a ship, click the card in your hand and a number of locations on the field will light up, provided you have enough energy to play the card, then choose the location where you want to have this ship launched. Structures are deployed in a similar way. Some actions require targets, when you perform them, all valid targets will light up and you can choose one of those. When you have finished preparing your defence and are ready to attack, press the “end turn” button or press the spacebar. All ships capable of attacking will either attack the ship in front of them, or attack your opponent’s base when it’s not defended by ships. The two numbers in the top-left corner of a ship card refer to the ship’s attack (how much damage the ship can do) and defence (how much damage the ship can take before it’s destroyed). Ships and structures can have up to 3 abilities. To find out about them, mouse over the card in your hand or in play. Certain abilities are only activated once, when the ship enters play. For instance the “Vector”: its ability allows it to attack the same turn it was launched. Most ships can not attack in their first turn. Repeating abilities are activated at the start of each turn, automatically. You’ll find that all energy generating structures will deliver their resources at the start of your turn. Finally, there are activatable abilities. If a structure or ship has one of these, a small icon will appear on the card’s image while in play. If the icon is glowing, you can use the ability. Most of them require some energy however. A deck can have no less than 30 and no more than 60 cards. Any cards can be used up to 4 times in the same deck. Be sure to have a mix of low-cost ships and actions as well as heavier ships. To make sure you’ll have enough resources throughout the fight, having about 3 energy generating structures for every 5 to 7 other cards is recommended. The random deck generator can create thousands of different decks based on the strength and strategies of the races and will provide a good starting point to get to know the different races. Several premade decks are included with the game as well and you can of course also create your own decks. Additional cards and races can be unlocked by meeting achievements. The list of achievements and their requirements is listed in the “scores” screen.
