CCC Supports Sokol Melodrama
This year marked the 41th Season of the St. James/St. Elizabeth Ann
Seton Melodrama at Sokol Auditorium, 13th and Martha, Omaha.
The Cornhusker Corvette Club has been a volunteer for several
years, serving the patrons who attend.
The show consists of a Melodrama followed by a singing stage show.
The 2 shows are separated by a 15 minute intermission, during
which refills are available for beer, soda, and popcorn.
It is very popular every year. Returning patrons have the option of
reserving the same tickets for next year. There is a waiting list for
tickets, much like Husker Football tickets. Tickets were $23/person -
beer, soda, and popcorn included with admission.

St. James Parish Melodrama began in 1976 in the “little theater” at Notre Dame on 35th and State St.
The $300 rent included the full six weeks of rehearsal time and the production ran just three nights.
They could seat 225 to 250 with a ticket price of only $3 each. A fourth night was added the following
year and soon they had to increase to six shows. Even with two weekends, they needed more space and
eventually moved to Notre Dame’s gym where they could accommodate 400+.
In 1997, that space was demolished for the construction of Seven Oaks Retirement facility and the play
relocated to the old Cathedral High School stage. Displaced again, after only two years, they moved to
Sokol Auditorium, which again allowed them to increase the size of the audience.
The melodrama relies on volunteers to serve the refreshments to the guest before the play and during
intermissions. The price includes all the popcorn, beer and soft drinks they want, so the servers really
hustle. This has been a project that CCC has embraced for several years, and club members are always
there to help. Some members were there both nights to help. The production includes a stage show
after the melodrama, and the cast is fantastic.
This year’s melodrama was a dramatic story about a
sneaky, double-dealing, Mustang dealer con man (Boo!
Hiss! Sound effects) who found out the National
Corvette Convention was coming to town and was
trying to swindle people out of their Corvettes. He went
too far when he tried to put the moves on our heroine
while cheating her father out if his beloved C5 coupe.
That is him dressed in black (what a surprise). The
crowd turned on him with a barrage of popcorn.
Meanwhile, the real heroes of the evenings were
the hard working CCC members who carried beer, soda and popcorn to the patrons.

It feels strange to not be on stage this weekend. We had another
fabulous year! A sincere thank you goes out to all of our audience
members. We wouldn't have a show without you. To the
volunteers, behind the scenes people, directors, cast, and crew
thanks for all your time and effort. We truly are a family and

Traveling To Kentucky with the Boys

* Editor’s note: Last month George Horst wrote an article about the adventure of
taking Ray Kennedy’s convention car to be displayed at the Corvette Museum in
Bowling Green. This is the story of the return trip to pick it up.
This Corvette was on display at the museum
through February, 2016 and is traveling to
various Chevy dealers in the area and will be on
display at the National Convention in Omaha
this July.
I should have realized this trip was going to be a little weird when Ray announced he just checked the
“feather warcast”…..weather forecast maybe?
After hearing about the last trip to the Corvette Museum with Gene, Jerry and George, I realized I had to
make rule #1. ABSOLUTELY NO FARTING IN THE TRUCK!
I was threatened more than once I’d better be at Gene’s at 6:00am sharp….not 6:01! I was also warned
about requesting too many bathroom breaks. I only had one cup of coffee, no water and no pop just so
I could keep everything on schedule. Did anyone notice I was suffering from dehydration? Gene said
NEVER pass up a restroom break as they were few and far between. At our first stop, I was determined
to be as speedy as possible but when I got out, I couldn’t see the truck. They changed drivers while I
was gone…..now Ray was driving right out of the gas station without ME!
We certainly didn’t suffer from lack of food. Each of us brought a goody bag and all together the snacks
had to total 100,000 calories. Kiki really outdid herself as we had escargot, caviar and champagne. But
seriously George, we did discover some liver pudding at the bottom of a wrinkled bag? We celebrated
crossing the Mississippi by tossing it out the window. After that we did find some nasty stuff called pork
rinds and I had to make rule #2----no pork rinds (which relates to rule #1).
The next day we went to the Museum promptly at 8:00am. Ray gave me his credit card and said get
anything you want at the museum store……probably trying to make up for leaving me at the gas station!

Our hotel in St. Louis was great…..well, except for Gene and Jerry’s room. It was so hot they had to
sleep in their drawers with the door open. PEOPLE PASSING BY THE ROOM THOUGHT MAYBE THERE
WAS A PARTY GOING ON IN THERE! They didn’t get much sleep.
One thing I discovered on this trip was that the folks at the Governors meeting really like to have
meetings. They have meetings to talk about what they talked about at the last meeting. Then they have
meetings to talk about what they should talk about at their next meeting. Their last meeting of the day
started at 10pm. Who schedules meetings at 10pm???
At noon on Saturday, we got to attend the granddaddy of
all meetings. We arrived an hour early to set up our
display of convention shirts. This enabled us to sit there
five hours instead of four! This meeting went on and on
and on and ON! Finally they addressed the top drivers
(Theresa and Joe from our club!!). Then they announced
the clubs with the most points in reverse order and as you know, the Cornhusker Corvette Club was #1.
Shortly after this announcement a board member got up and said…..”Well bigger isn’t always better”!
What kind of slam was that?? So Gene got up and announced he was going to have to retract his
statement to Kathy she that she had believed for years about bigger being better! (We did sell lots of
shirts)
About two hours into the meeting, Gene sent Ray to Panera’s for sandwiches. Ray had to go down a
long hall, through the mall and down the escalator to the courtyard. He came back ten minutes later
empty handed. Gene said, “I’ll draw you a map and oh by the way, it’s called the St Louis Bread
Company”. Ray said “no s___, I walked by that place five times”!
We left St Louis about 4:45pm and it was a LONG ride home. When we finally got to Gene’s and were
unloading the truck, I noticed Ray’s coffee had spilled on the floor mat. I bent over to clean it up and
dog gone it…..I was the only one to break rule #1.
This Corvette also promotes the NCCC convention and the
Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Omaha which serves to
rehabilitate those service men and women who have suffered
traumatic brain injuries in the service of our country.

How the Corvette
Outlived the
Thunderbird
By Bill Cashell Part 2- The Times, They Are a Changing
The 1960’s was known as the decade of change. The world changed in so many ways like it had never
seen before (or since). America’s taste in cars
was also changing. The public was enthralled
with power and gadgets. The late ‘50’s gave is
styling and tail fins like we had never seen
before. Now, Detroit had an eye toward the
future. By the early 60s, both Thunderbird and
Corvette had established themselves as
American icons with distinct and different
identities. Thunderbird was now the ultimate personal luxury car. Corvette was the ultimate street
racer. Both were steeped in style and power.
In 1961, the now-established Ford Division flagship
introduced the futuristic "bullet bird" look, a design
featuring full-length body sculpturing and an even
thinner roof than previous models. Standard equipment
included automatic transmission, power steering and
power brakes, and a unique swing-away steering wheel
- ordered by nearly 77 percent of all Thunderbird buyers
- was optional. Americans were embracing the trend-
setting Thunderbird, which lead the way to the Galaxy 500 with bucket seats and console, the Chevy
Super Sport, and the mid size “Muscle cars” like the GTO, Chevelle SS. The new Thunderbird was
immediately well received with 73,051 sold for 1961.
For 1964 the Thunderbird was restyled in favor of a more squared-off
appearance, which was mostly evident when viewing the car from the
side or rear. Hinting at its roots in the previous generation
Thunderbird that it evolved from, the new model retained a similar
grille design with dual headlights. This basic design was carried
through 1966, and continued to be a top seller for Ford.

For Thunderbird, innovation was the name of the game. The Thunderbird's fifth generation brought the
second major change in the car's design direction since its debut in 1955. From 1958 to 1966, the
Thunderbird had remained fundamentally the same in concept as a sporty two-door coupe/convertible
with two rows of seating. However, the introduction of the Ford Mustang in early 1964 had created a
challenge to the Thunderbird's market positioning for it, like the
Thunderbird, was also a two-door coupe/convertible with two
rows of seating. Where the Mustang had an advantage was in the
point that it was substantially cheaper. To prevent overlap
between the two cars, Ford's response was to move the
Thunderbird upmarket. The result, introduced for 1967, was a
larger Thunderbird with luxury appointments more in line with a
Lincoln.
The new Thunderbird abandoned unibody construction in favor of a body-on-frame construction with
sophisticated rubber mountings between the body and frame to reduce noise and vibration. A pair of
significant departures from the previous generation Thunderbird was the elimination of a convertible
model and the addition a four-door model, which used suicide doors for rear seat access. The available
four-door design would remain a unique feature to this generation as it was not carried on after 1971.
One of the most noticeable design elements of the fifth generation Thunderbird was the gaping, fighter
jet-inspired grille opening that incorporated hidden headlights.
Thunderbird continued to reinvent itself, with the sixth
generation Thunderbird debuting in the fall of 1971 as a 1972
model. With a 120.4-inch wheelbase, an overall length of 214
inches (growing to 225 inches by 1974), and a curb weight of
4,420 pounds (over 4,800 pounds when equipped with a 460 cu
in (7.5 L) V8), it was the largest Thunderbird ever produced by
Ford, sharing the body and frame of the Lincoln Mark IV. The big
Thunderbirds were popular with sales peaking at over 87,000 units in 1973 in spite of the 1973 oil crisis,
but sales had slumped to less than 43,000 by 1975.
While T-Bird set the standard in personal luxury, Corvette focused on power. The 283 cu. In. engine
grew to 327 cu. In. with as much as 375 hp. In 1965, Corvette made the change it had resisted for many
years and dropped the big block 396 (425 hp) into the 2-seater. The next year it was replaced by the
427, growing to a rated factory 435 hp. Dyno tests showed the actual rating above 500 hp, rising
insurance rates made it hard to sell a car with that much power. With the belief that bigger is better,
GM went up one more with the 454 in 1970. Chevy had made a commitment that none of their other
cars would have more power than the Corvette.
On the down side, testers found the suspension
suffered from both excessive harshness over
irregular surfaces and a certain floatiness at speed.
Not that these criticisms mattered much, because
1970 would mark the end for big-inch, big-power

Corvettes in the traditional mold. Besides skyrocketing insurance rates and fast-falling demand for
sporty cars, Chevy's top performance machines were doomed by GM president Ed Cole's desire to
eliminate low-volume options. He also dictated that all engines be retuned to run on 91-octane fuel,
anticipating the need for catalytic converters to meet ever-tightening emissions limits. Times were
changing and not in the direction that Corvette was heading.
Perhaps the biggest blow to Corvette, along with all of the performance cars of the late 60’s was the
change in gasoline. 1973 saw something that car-loving Americans had never imagined – we ran out of
gas. Suddenly, there was a gas shortage, with many stations imposing a 10 gallon limit and long lines
waiting at the pumps. The price of gasoline doubled from the 25 cents of the decade before and
continued to climb. This was not the best time for V8 power. The hottest selling cars of the early ‘70s
were the pint-sized Honda Civic and the VW diesel.
American car makers were slow to respond to the changing landscape. After all, they had tried to give
the public economy cars just a decade before with the Corvair, Falcon, Valiant and others. This time it
was different. Japanese car makers such as Honda and Nissan exploded and left US makers to chase
them. In the mid 70’s, GM followed their lead and announced that it would gradually phase out V8
motors in passenger cars. The last GM passenger car would be the 1983 Corvette. Most experts saw that
as the day the Corvette plant would close the doors for good. How ironic it is now that the 1983
Corvette would never see production.
As Corvette struggled in sales during the early 70’s, so did the once famous power. The California
version in 1975 had a wimpy 165 hp, only 15 more than the original blue flame 6-cylinder in 1953. Part
of the drop was due the horsepower ratings changing from gross hp to net hp.
Then, something happened in the mid 70’s that no one could have foreseen. Corvette sales began to
pick up, rising every year to a record 53,807 of the comparatively gutless wonders. As Mark Twain once
said, “Reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated”.
With new life, the GM team planned for a new generation of Corvettes. The Corvette team dabbled with
mid engine designs, but GM execs would not buy in. This design was tested again in the 80’s but the
front engine design would not go away.
For 1977 the Thunderbird was shifted to the smaller 114 inches wheelbase chassis that was used in the
1972–76 Ford Torino and its replacement, the LTD II which also debuted
for 1977. In 1977, Thunderbird outsold the Oldsmobile Cutlass to become
America's top selling personal luxury sedan. It was Ford's first effort at
downsizing the Thunderbird, reflecting rising demand for more fuel
efficient cars. The standard engine outside California was the 302 cu in
(4.9 L) Windsor V8, while the larger 351 cu in (5.8 L) 351M and 400 cu in
(6.6 L) and T-tops were available as options along with the 351W. It was a sign of the times and changing
demands of car buyers.
In 1980, Thunderbird continued its downsizing effort, but with less
success than before. Compared to the previous Torino-based Thunderbird
and its large 114 inches wheelbase and 217.7 inches overall length, the

new Thunderbird lost 5.6 inches of wheelbase and 15 inches (381 mm) in overall length. The squarish
styling seen in the previous generation Thunderbird was favored for the new model, but the small car
platform resulted in a poor translation with a distinctly upright appearance. Frameless door glass was no
longer used; a chrome metal frame was used, making this car more like a two-door sedan. Combined
with the poor performing 4.2 L (255 cu in) Windsor V8 as a base engine, and a C5 3 speed transmission
with 2.26 rear gears, this Thunderbird generation was not well received by the public.
In response to the lackluster reception of the eighth-generation
1980–1982 Thunderbird, Ford executed a significant redesign for
1983. Though based on the Fox body like the previous Thunderbird,
the new Thunderbird featured a radically sleeker, more
aerodynamic body and a slightly shorter wheelbase of 104.2 in. To
power the new Thunderbird, the 3.8 L Essex V6 and 4.9 L (302 cu in)
Windsor 5.0 V8 were carried over from the previous generation. a
Thunderbird first, was a turbocharged 2.3 L OHC 4-cylinder engine
featured in the 1983 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. The engine initially produced 142 horsepower
Meanwhile, Corvette had refused to budge from its basic identity, and set out to make a better version
of itself. Introduced in March 1983, the C4 featured 205
horsepower, 290 lb-ft of torque, a one-piece removable roof
panel, and digital instruments. Drag coefficient clocked in at a
claimed 0.34, 24-percent more efficient than that of its
predecessor. This is a dead-serious sports car,” writes Motor
Trend, who named it Car of the Year. “It defers to the bizarre
only with its video-game instrument panel, which features all
manner of multicolored, liquid-crystal bar graphs, and digital displays in metric and English. The
Corvette’s handling rivaled European sports cars for the first time, and featured several new
innovations. The public responded by gobbling up 51,547 of the new C4s. Part of that number is inflated
because of a longer sales period. During the late 80’s and into the 90’s the Corvette refined the car and
pushed the power up nearly every year. By the end of the C4 run, these cars reminded people of the
Corvettes of old. Horsepower was back, and the public wanted more. But, would that be enough to keep
it going in a new world of high tech cars and turbo chargers?
During the late 1980’s to mid 1990’s the Corvette’s future was in serious jeopardy; the car came
disturbingly close to be cancelled by virtually eliminating the funding for the C4's replacement. The ZR1
extended the life of the aging C4 Corvette design and breathed temporary life into the current
generation, which had already been in production for almost 7 years and due to be replaced in 1993.
The new C5 was already under development and scheduled for a 1993 introduction to coincide with the
Corvette’s fortieth anniversary but by the beginning of the 1990’s things inside General Motors took a
dramatic but not wholly unexpected turn.
Every program within the corporation was looked at for cutbacks, consolidation and downsizing whether
profitable or not, all in a frenzy to cut costs and maintain sales of their profitable high volume and high
profit cars which were under attack from imports. Now, not only was General Motors losing massive

amounts of money but they were also losing respect throughout the automotive world for shoddy
quality and company morale was at an all time low from the constantly changing business plan and
almost weekly reorganization efforts.
And even though the low volume Corvette was both profitable and the expenditure for the entire
program was relatively small, it was not immune to cutbacks. And so, even though the Corvette was
operating “in the black,” it came as an unexpected surprise when Bob Stempel announced in a high level
executive conference in the fall of 1989 that the Corvette development program was “now on indefinite
status.”
Many of those in attendance that heard those words interpreted them to mean the future of the
Corvette was dead and though demoralizing to those that had worked so hard on the Corvette, no one
was really sure what he exactly meant. Insiders realized that the aging C4, even with the ZR1, could not
compete much longer and if the development of the C5 was cancelled, it virtually meant the end of the
Corvette.
Getting a new C5 to the market was clearly the only way the Corvette would survive so the team had to
devise a way to continue the design and development of the C4 replacement. One of the advantages of
being a small program in a large corporation is that it is often possible to just keep doing what you have
been doing as long as you keep a low profile and stay under the radar. Obviously in the largest
corporation in the world, and one losing $24B a year, there were bigger “fish to fry” than the relatively
tiny Corvette program.
It was obvious that the Corvette had several loyal supporters within the organization at all levels and
they did not want to see America’s sports car terminated. So those committed managers associated
with the Corvette proceeded to just continue to do what they were doing but to do it more quietly and
use a little “creative accounting” to hide any costs associated with the C5 development. But operating
“under the radar” and with no development budget it was clear that the C5 could never meet the
original target date for a 1993 introduction.
On more than one occasion the Corvette program had the budgets cut so
severely that even being able to fund programs necessary to maintain the C4
seemed impossible. And yet most of the engineers and designers assigned to
the Corvette continued to throw themselves into their jobs and work long
hours to insure that America’s sports car would live on. It was only through
their dedicated efforts along with a few other executives that managed to
save the most iconic car in America. Jim Perkins, Chevrolet’s GM, believed and
openly proclaimed, “There is a little Corvette in every Chevrolet.” In order to
help save the Corvette he went as far as to divert $1M from Chevrolet’s
budget to help finance the much needed replacement Corvette. He knew well the importance of the
Corvette in driving other Chevrolet sales. It was a gutsy move on Jim’s part and one of the reasons we
have a Corvette today and also one of the reasons Jim is in the National Corvette Museum’s Hall of
Fame.

Production of the C5 Corvette began in 1997 and ended with the 2004 model year. The C5 had a top
speed of 181 mph and was judged by the automotive press as improved in nearly every area over the
previous Corvette design with the inclusion of a torque tube and rear transaxle along with the car's
much increased structural rigidity and much more curvaceous design. After a long road of ups and
downs, the Corvette had reclaimed its place as the ultimate American street machine.
Thunderbird was not finished with innovations, and the 1989 Thunderbird was the first in the car's
history not to offer a V8 engine, instead offering two different
versions of Ford's 3.8 L Essex OHV V6. Standard versions of the
Thunderbird received a naturally aspirated version of the V6
producing 140 horsepower while the high performance Super
Coupe (SC) model received a supercharged and intercooled
version of the engine producing 210 horsepower. In 1990 for the
1991 model year, a V8 was offered in the Thunderbird once
again, slotting in between the standard and supercharged versions of the 3.8 L V6. The V8 was the
revered 5.0L engine produced at the Cleveland Engine Plant #1, now with more power and torque
relative to the last time the engine was used in the Thunderbird in 1988.
By 1995 Ford began to reduce its investment in the tenth generation Thunderbird. While the
Thunderbird received minor changes for 1996, the Super Coupe model was discontinued the previous
year and the options list for the remaining models was condensed. In the mid-1990s, Ford decided to
discontinue the tenth generation Thunderbird with the last example of the car rolling off the assembly
line in Lorain, Ohio on September 4, 1997. After 42 years, the legendary Thunderbird was only a shadow
of the once mighty trend setter.
After a hiatus of several years, Ford introduced a new Thunderbird for 2002. Returning to the original
formula for the Thunderbird, the latest version had a two-seat
coupe/convertible layout like the first-generation Thunderbird
and retro futuristic styling to match. The sole engine of the
Thunderbird was a Jaguar-designed 3.9 L DOHC V8, making 252
horsepower. With sales dropping off significantly after its first
model year, Ford decided to make the 2005 model year the
Thunderbird's last with no scheduled successor. The last one rolled off the assembly line on July 1, 2005.

doctors removed a section of Jonathan's colon. Jonathan received the diagnosis that he had colon
cancer, and has most likely spread to his liver. Meeting with an oncologist this week. Jonathan could

our count, this is Dave’s 3rd different Corvette in
the past year. Las Vegas odds are 42 to 1 that
Dave will have a different one by Summer
Festival.
Bob and Mary Jo Hegwood have a new home for their car and themselves. Mary Jo said that they still
have some unpacking to do, because they now have a 3 ½ car garage but can only get one car in. I’ll bet
we can guess which one is in the garage.

Just a reminder that the deadline for requesting the permanent competition number that you
had last year for the West Region events - and being assured that you will have that same
number this year - is fast approaching - February 15. There has been some problems getting
the 2016 form on the website, but you can go ahead and use the 2015 form that is out there.
Go to www.westregionnccc.com . All proceeds go to the West Region Scholarship Fund.
It was announced at the meeting on November 14, 2015, NCCC has been provided gift
certificates for Hot Laps at the Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch. It was suggested that we
try to raise money for the Scholarship/Grants Program and FCOA with the money generated
from the auction.
The Raffle will be linked to the NCCC home page no later than the morning of 2/13/15 and
there will be information on the “What's New on the NCCC Web Site?” page on the NCCC web
site that will direct members to the Announcements page to provide specific information about
the auction and the online bidding. Everyone is invited to participate. The auction starts
2/15/16 and ends 2/29/16. You never know who might be interested in the "thrill ride"!

NCCC Convention Update from the Director
Registration is in high gear for the convention and it will be here before you know
it. Remember to go on line and register before June first to avoid the higher price.
The tours are all set, the high speed and low speed events are roaring to go.
The valve cover track is completed and Perry wants you to know that on April 3rd from 2-5, the
track will be set up at Embassy Suites for you to test and tune your car before the convention
starts. Preparations for the car show and rallye are being fine-tuned. Two bands have been
hired, one to entertain on Sunday night and the other for Thursday evening. Wear your dancing
shoes. Rays wrapped car will return from the Corvette museum on the 24th of February and a
schedule for its appearances is being worked out.
We still need your help getting donations to make this convention a memorable one. If you
know anyone interested in donating, contact John Schomburg at Huber. Speaking of Huber, be
sure and thank them for everything they have done for us. This convention will put us in the
limelight, along with Omaha. Be part of it.

Convention Planning is in Full Swing
The convention committee has been really busy getting
ready for the best NCCC Convention ever. Huber
Chevrolet hosted the meeting, where pictures of chair
people were taken for the convention booklet. We have
found a graphic designer who will create our booklet for
a great discount.
We will have a welcome dinner on Sunday evening to start
the convention.
Gene displayed a portrait of “Gunther the Lion”, which will
be auctioned at the convention. Proceeds will go to
Madonna Medical Research Center.
Jerry will be going to St. Louis to share information with NCCC.
What else is happening? Here is the latest scoop:
The Gary Kuck Motorsports Collection is popular with 108 people and growing.
Pick Kadillac will play on Thursday evening at the convention.
Day passes will be available June 1.
Volunteers are need for tech. You do not need to be experienced to do this. It is very easy to
learn. Contact J.B. Benedict or P. L. Pilger if you are interested.
Volunteers are needed for van drivers. Contact Ray Kennedy if you can help.
Volunteers are need on Sunday to greet people at the hotel when they arrive.
The registration price goes up on May 1.
Practice run for valve cover racing will be at the hotel on April 3. This will simulate the actual
convention races to make sure everything works perfectly. Everyone is welcome. Come race
your car and help out.
We have a new website for convention pictures. The website also has the welcome video as well
as information about the activities for visitors. It is under construction and will be completed
soon. All convention pictures and highlights will be posted to the website and kept until the end
of the year for downloading. The website is www.ncccconvention.com

I do believe spring has sprung! During a recent
visit at a dealership I noticed corvettes rolling in
for service. Is your corvette ready to go? If you
do need service please check the newsletter, as
there are numerous qualified service providers!
National Council has narrowed down to three
their Charity of choice. They are St. Jude’s,
Shriners and Lyons Eye Bank. They were
selected because they are tops in the amount of
dollars given back to those in need. You will be
hearing more in the very near future on the
subject. I plan on inviting a representative from
the three Charities to speak at our General
Meetings. Hopefully this will aid us in CCC’s
choice of Charities.

found that one of
my duties was to
review the
Operating Rules
and Procedures
of the club. Yet
another reminder of not knowing what I was
getting into when I accepted this position.

is still a few months

tentative event
dates have been
submitted to the
RCD so the event
calendar can be set
up. CCI has
scheduled its three speed event weekends as
follows: Chariton – May 28, 29 & 30 (Memorial
weekend); Newton – June 25 & 26; Ankeny –
August 13 & 14. Over the next couple of
months, CCI and other clubs hosting events in
the region will begin filling out their sanction
requirements by negotiating sanction
acquisitions from clubs that don’t use all of
their allotment.

Jerry Koraleski, President, began the meeting
by leading the Pledge of Allegiance and
welcomed everyone. President Koraleski then
asked the club to take a moment of silence for
those who have passed away, and for those
who are sick and in need of healing. Cards were

There will be no high speed events at RPG this year. (Convention high speed race expenses are handled separately through NCCC)
H&H Chevrolet is no longer going to be a contributor
The Awards Banquet is being moved to Cascio’s for 2016 which will be a big savings Attendance has gone down in past 2 years and BOD wants to build the banquet numbers back
Proceeds from sale of old equipment trailer is not reflected in the budget report.
Tom asked if there were any questions and
encouraged members to take the budget
reports with them and he will answer any
questions that members have next month. The
budget will be presented next month and Tom
will ask for it to be approved by the General
Membership at that time.

Jayne Sainz, from the Social Committee asked
for volunteers to serve pop, popcorn and beer
at the Sokal Hall event. Workers will be able to
see the program free and a potluck dinner will
be served at the end of the night which CCC
workers have been invited to attend at no cost
Jayne also reminded CCC members of the St.
Patrick’s Day parade on March 12. Members
will gather at the Village Inn at Hwy 36 & 370

for breakfast between 8:30 and 9:00. The
group will head downtown about 10:00 for the
parade. After the parade, the Corvettes will
head to Quaker Steak & Lube in Council Bluffs
for lunch.

for tech. Please volunteer for a short shift
helping these guys. Kathy Brisbois is heading
the tech for the Rallye.
A date to put on your calendar is April 3 from 2-
5 which is the valve cover rehearsal at Embassy
Suites.
Chris Tooker, Contributor, came to the front of
the room to talk about his reason for joining the
club and about what he can do to help
individuals through his profession with Merrill
Lynch. “We came for the car but stayed for the
people” runs deep in his soul as he grew up
working with his Dad and Grandpa in a garage
on Corvettes in Colorado. Chris expressed the
enjoyment he has received from being a CCC
member and extended his hand to anyone who
would be interested in reviewing their financial
plan and goals or who needs help in the tax
season.
Kathy Brisbois asked for donations of the small

Robert Reade came to the podium and thanked
everyone for their cards, prayers and phone
calls while he was recovering from heart

surgery. He mentioned he wanted to keep it

chuckles from the crowd. We’re so glad Bob is
doing well.

How-To: Sound Deadening Your Corvette By Bill Cashell
There are times when you want to hear your Corvette’s natural orchestra and times when you may not. For those times where you are wanting a little less Pavarotti, there are ways to help accomplish that task. The Corvette has not been known as a particularly quiet car in its history, inside or out. Unfortunately, until recently, the car has been known to give off a rattle or two that discerning ears may be able to pick out. Fortunately, there are ways to help improve your ability to hear with the windows up, and it isn’t as difficult as you may think.
One main area to install sound deadening insulation is to the rear bulk-head of the Corvette, as shown above in the picture. Keep in mind that while a majority of road noise and sound comes through this area, it can be a good idea to pull the panels off the doors and install the same material there for those of you wanting to go even farther.
If all else fails, put in a bigger stereo with subwoofers. Then, you will not hear a thing because you will eventually become deaf.
