Worthy Brother Knights, Vivat Jesus

Welcome to our newest members: David Downy sponsored by Joel Turbiak, Rolando Zapata sponsored by Greg Knoph, Jeffrey McParland and Wiilam Fenter both sponsored by Charlie Rozum, and Tony Rotondo sponsored by Bill Dolunt. We have had twenty-eight new members this fraternal year including two reactivations and two transfers. And if you are a Catholic lady, you can join our Donne-Gals by contacting Julie Maher at [email protected].

On Tuesday, July 19th at our regularly scheduled membership meeting, there will be a motion to make a loan to the Building Association. The exclusive caterer contract with Rose Catering will terminate at the end of July. The building has created a two year plan to generate revenue but it will need financial support while it implements the plan. The building will offer a preferred caterer list giving renters more options. The building will have control of rental pricing, catering pricing and any extras a renter may request. The building association is working on events that will generate a lot of buzz and excitement.

The building association is working on the installation of new carpet for the lounge area and a fresh coat of paint. A fresh look will help improve our rentals. To keep our costs down ,our brother knights will need to rally together to do the painting and carpet tear out. In the near future you will see a request for help. If you want to put your name on the list in advance, email me at [email protected]. Thank you to our Donne Gals for their help in selecting the right color and style that will appeal to potential renters. A special thank you to Stephanie Bourdon for lending her expertise on carpet and paint selection as well as finding a company that was able to work with us on price. You are amazing Stephanie!

The annual boat cruise is on schedule for Friday, July 8th. As I write this article there are still a few openings on the bus and on the boat. To reserve your spot, contact Roy MacDonald at 706-289-7585 or Joe Kronk at 313-320-1905. The cost is $45 for the bus ride from the council, the boat cruise with open bar, and then a bus ride back to the council for food and cash bar.

See the ad in this paper for more details.

There will be a St. Mary’s of Redford class of 1966 reunion at the council on Friday, September 23rd. All SMR alumni are welcome! See the ad in this newsletter.

Our Lecturer, Dave DiPonio, is scheduling a field trip to the Ford Rouge Plant on Thursday, September 29th. Those going will car pool from the council at 9:30am and lunch at Miller’s Bar after the tour. Anticipated arrival back at the council is 3pm. If you are interested in this adventure, contact Dave at [email protected] or 313-363-6153.

Remember to visit the website regularly to stay in tune with the events at your council. Go to www.monaghankofc .org and scroll all the way to the bottom of the home page to sign up for the newsletter.

One last thing. We are looking for volunteers to help with Bingo. The council is offering a great community activity with bingo and it bring in funds to help our charities. Volunteers

do earn a stipend and a couple drinks, but it’s also a great way to give back to your council and enjoy some comradery with your fellow brothers. Bingo is Tuesday mornings and Wednesday evenings, and you can volunteer to work whatever fits your schedule whether it’s once a week or once a month. If you can volunteer contact Dan Connor at 248-476-7624.

Have a safe and fun summer.
