PROMOTING THE 'LOW COST LIVING HOME’

HGS Energy Savings Advisors participated in the iconic Ideal

Home Show – arguably Britain's biggest home based

exhibition, which ran for its 105th year at Earls Court, London

from 15 March – 1 April. HGS advisors were at the event to

support the 'Low Cost Living House' exhibit at the show, which

was set up in partnership with the Green Deal. As energy

savings experts, HGS advisors gave tips to consumers on

various energy efficient measures such as programmable

room thermostats, internal wall and floor insulations, heat

recovery ventilation units etc. “We have had considerable

interest from visitors at the exhibit regarding the Green Deal

initiative. During the last one week, we have received over 100

requests for information from people eager to make energy

savings to their homes,” commented Rob Irons, HGS Account

Director for Public Sector Services.

The model of the Low Cost Living house has been one of the

most popular exhibits at the show, attracting people in droves

to its beautiful open plan living and low carbon, eco-friendly

Homes Level 6 standards, features several energy saving

measures approved by the Green Deal. Andrew Benfield, Head of

Government Programmes at the Energy Saving Trust commented,

“Initially the Low Cost Living House was a stand-alone exhibit with

no one on call to provide information. But we quickly realised the

need for advisors armed with expert knowledge, to answer the

mounting questions from visitors at the exhibit. HGS advisors

have also been stoking interest in the Green Deal and facilitating

great conversations around energy savings at the show. They

have been integral to the success of this exhibit”.

The highlight of the show was a visit from the Minister for Climate

Change, Greg Barker MP, who spend time chatting with the

advisors and posing for photographs –where they shone, literally!
