The PACS Consortium: 15 Institutes in 6 Countries

PACS has been designed and built by a consortium of institutes and university departments from across Europe under the leadership of Principal Investigator Albrecht Poglitsch located at Max-Planck-Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics, Garching, Germany.

Consortium members are: Austria: UVIE; Belgium: IMEC, KUL, CSL; France: CEA, OAMP; Germany: MPE, MPIA; Italy: IFSI, OAP/OAT, OAA/CAISMI, LENS, SISSA; Spain: IAC.

Imaging photometer (Camera) - two detector arrays („chips“): 512 and 2048 pixel- simultaneous imaging in two out of three colours (70, 100, 160 μm)

Spectrometer

- two detector arrays: 400 pixel each- integral field spectroscopy, i.e. images in the light of spectral lines of atoms, ions and molecules (wavelength from 57 to 210 μm)

- simultaneous 57-105 & 105-210 μm spectroscopy - two 16x25 Ge:Ga detector arrays, partially under high mechanical stress
