Dear residents, families and friends, Keeping our residents safe is one of our main priorities. That’s why we have recently rolled out a state-of-the-art nurse call system, which uses iPhones to ensure residents get the proper assistance quickly. Here’s how it works: Heritage uses emergency call pendants, bed/chair/motion sensors, and door alarms to identify when a resident needs assistance. Before, those messages would go to staff’s pagers. Now, those alerts are securely transmitted to iPhones, which allow staff to work with each other to determine who is best able to answer the call. If there are two alerts, for instance, staff can now identify which one they are attending to so both residents get help promptly. The iPhones also allow staff to securely communicate – like if they need additional assistance or require a nurse to help evaluate a situation. And, by using PCC on their iPhones, staff can now chart while working with the resident, ensuring prompt and accurate details. These changes are a great way for staff to maximize their time, while streamlining and improving care! our respected residents.

This month, our life enrichment theme is “Celebrating Wisconsin Food and Farming.” And there is so much to celebrate! We are lucky to live in a state with such a thriving agricultural landscape, giving us quick access to a variety of dairy products, beef, fish, corn, grains and more. Plus, the rich tapestry of ethnicities in Wisconsin means a host

traditional dishes, from German fare like brats and stollen to Danish kringle and Polish pierogis. This month, we hope you get to experience all of Wisconsin’s culinary landscape – from beloved childhood dishes and family favorites to unique dishes you may never have tried (or heard of)! To expand your journey even more – and get a true taste of

Wisconsin, consider stopping by a local farmers market to browse fresh, local ingredients and products!

The weather is gradually getting better and better – meaning more opportunities to spend time outdoors! In addition to the increase in vitamin D (which helps us absorb calcium and reduces inflammation), being outdoors is a great way to improve your health and boost your mood. • Nature gives you energy. Spending 20 minutes in the open air can apparently give you as much energy as a cup of coffee. •Being near plants may help

your immune system. Scientists think that phytoncides from plants boost our white blood cell counts, helping us fight off infections and disease. • It’s natural aromatherapy! So stop and smell the roses (and grass and trees) because these scents help us feel calmer and more relaxed. • It helps with focus and creativity. Walking in nature not only helps you concentrate better on tasks, but it also improves overall creativity.

When venturing outdoors this season, make sure to wear sunscreen and proper attire – and take time to enjoy the beautiful scenery!

On May 19, residents and friends got together for a special Mother’s Day appreciation tea party and brunch. We spent the morning reminiscing about our favorite memories as mothers, and enjoyed the company and special treats.
