4 Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion a.k.a. Blue Mansion B2

5 Pinang Peranakan Mansion D5

6 House of Yeap Chor Ee C5
Historical gallery dedicated to the founder of the Penang based Ban Hin Lee Bank, showcasing furniture from the Yeap residence. Enter from The Sire restaurant on Lebuh King.Free admission for restaurant guests. T +604 264 5088
Colonial Heritage Tour
The tour of the colonial quarter makes for a pleasant introduction to George Town. Start your walking tour at Fort Cornwallis, and view the Clocktower and State Assembly Buildings from the ramparts.

East India Company fort built by Captain Francis Light in 1786 from nibong palm, rebuilt in brick by Light. Largely intact, with chapel, gunpowder magazine, lighthouse and historical gallery. Admission RM3. Closed on Sunday. T +604 261 0262
8 Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Clocktower C6
Built by local millionaire Cheah Chen Eok in 1897 to commemorate the 60th year of the Queen’s reign. Completed in 1902 after the Queen’s death.
9 State Assembly Building C5
Once served as the Police Central Station.
Zhemchug wreck marker B7
A red buoy marks the spot where the Russian warship Zhemchug sank when it was torpedoed by the German cruiser Emden in World War I.
10 Cenotaph B5
A memorial to those who died in World War I.
11 City Hall B5
Built in 1903 as the Municipal Office.
12 Town Hall B5
Was once the watering hole for local socialites and elites. Opened in 1880 and used for various purposes including theatrical performances, church services and the birth of the Penang State Library.
13 Supreme Court Building B4
Built in 1903 of neo-Palladian archicture to replace original courthouse which was constructed in 1809.
14 Logan’s Monument B4
Monument erected in momory of James Richardson Logan, champion of rights of the non-Europeans in Penang. Died in 1969.
15 Convent Light Street B4
Oldest girls’ school in the country. Established by French Sisters’ Mission in 1852.
16 Government House B4
Within the Convent grounds. Built by Captain Francis Light circa 1790. It served as the Governor’s Office and Council Chambers when Stamford Raffles worked in Penang from 1805.
17 St. Xavier’s Institution B3
Founded by the La Salle Brothers in 1852. Bombed during World War II and rebuilt in 1952.
18 Christian Cemetery B2
Graves from circa 1790. The final resting place of many Penang pioneers.
19 Leong Yin Khean Mansion A2
Designed by Scottish architect Joseph Charles Miller in 1926 for the Cambridge-educated Leong.
29 Yap Kongsi and Ciji Temple D3
Two adjoining buildings – the Straits eclectic-style building with the words “Yap Temple” inscribed in the pediment and the Choo Chay Keong Temple dedicated to the Yap Clan’s patron deities. Intricately carved designs adorning its front walls and the four pillars at the entrance.

31 Clan Jetties F4
Traditional Chinese waterfront settlement with fisherfolk and stevedores’ homes built on stilts over the sea.
32 Penang Islamic Museum D3
Historical personalities, religious education, trading activities and heritage of Penang’s Muslim communities. Housed in the 19th century Syed Alatas Mansion. Admission RM3. Closed on Tuesday. T +604 262 0172
33 Malay Mosque, Lebuh Acheh E3
Founded by Tengku Syed Hussain Al-Idid, a Hadrami Arab merchant-prince from Acheh. Acheh Street was the centre of the Achehnese spice trade, Malay printing presses, religious education and Haj travel.
34 Khoo Kongsi E3
The most renowned of Penang’s Hokkien Clanhouse perpetuating Confucian practices. Admission RM5 to Temple Square and Clanhouse museum. Open daily. T +604 261 4609

Take a walk down the one-kilometre ‘Street of Harmony’, where houses of worship representing the world’s great faiths of Islam, Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism stand side-by-side, testifying to a tradition of peaceful co-existence.
21 Church of the Assumption B4
Founded in 1786, when Captain Francis Light first came to Penang. This church was the seat of the bishop of Penang from 1955–2003 and it is also a World Heritage Church.
22 St. George’s Church C4
Southeast Asia’s first Anglican Church opened in 1818 and was designed by military engineer and painter Captain Robert Smith of Bengal Engineers.
23 Goddess of Mercy Temple C4
One of the oldest Chinese Temple in Penang. The present structure’s foundation was laid in 1728.
24 Sri Maha Mariammam Temple D4
Dedicated to the Hindu deity Sri Muthu Mariammam. Was a place of worship in 1801 and became a temple in 1833. The gateway, or gopuram is magnificently sculptured with 38 Hindu deities.
25 Nagore Shrine D4
Constructed in the early 1800s by South Indian emigrants in honor of Syed Shahul Hamid, a Muslim saint who lived in Nagore in the 13th century.
26 Han Jiang Ancestral Temple D4
Also called Teochew (Chaozhou) Temple. Winner of UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Award (2006) for the preservation of both tangible and intangible heritage. Amateur Chinese opera rehearsals on Sunday afternoon.
27 Kapitan Keling Mosque D3
Prominent historic mosque of the Tamil Muslim community. Founded 1801, Moghul-style expansion circa 1910 by German Eurasian architect H.A. Neubronner.
Historic Enclave Tour
Armenian Street, Acheen Street and Connon Street form a charming enclave with a small park and cultural attractions. This area reflects the meeting point of Confucian and Islamic civilizations.
