The Coorong is an area of outstanding beauty, a stretch of water 90 mileg long, commencing at the Murray Mouth and separated from the ocean by the Younghusband Peninsula, a sand dune system be1ng the outermost dunes of sixteen prev1ous coastlines, in an extens1ve dune and flat system extending inland to Naracoorte and Penola. The area is noted for its wile and desolate beauty and for its birdlife. The area has changed considerably in recent times partly as a result of drainage of the flats, which has reduced fresh water flushing, particularly at Salt Creek.
