Jaipur was the last capital of Dhoondhar, the kingdom of the Kachchwaha Rajputs and is situated in the plains at the edges of the Aravalli range, which formed a part of the legendary Matsyadesh of the Mahabharata. Duleh Rai laid the foundation of Dhoondhar kingdom in 966 CE and entered the Machi area through the hilly terrain known as Purana Ghat. Down the valley line in the Purana Ghat area, one can see the Ghat Ki Guni complex which had a great role to play in the history of the Dhoondhar state and served as a gateway to the Dhoondhar kingdom for centuries. During the period of Raja Man Singh, Ghat Ki Guni was merely a paved cobblestone path and it is said that many structures were constructed in the area to display the grandeur of Amber State to the Mughal Emperor. With the founding of Jaipur in 1727AD, a new architectural spirit was revived that could be seen by the addition of many gardens, palaces and havelis which were added to Ghat Ki Guni. The complex still has an impressive conglomeration of fifty-two unique properties of great architectural and historical significance. The Ghat Ki Guni complex constitutes a valuable inheritance to a vibrant town like Jaipur conveying the unique historical and cultural character of its natural and built environment and as a symbol of the culture of urban Rajasthan. Roop Niwas BaghRoop Niwas Bagh was constructed by Roopan Badaran in1829 AD who was the favourite maid of Maaji Bhattiyani, wife of Sawai Jagat Singh – III.

Sisodia Rani BaghSisodia Palace was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in 1710 AD and named after his queen who hailed from the Sisodia line of Rajputs who ruled Mewar and still continue to exude their control over Udaipur. The palace has many galleries, pavilions, multi tiered gardens and beautiful murals mostly depicting anecdotes from Lord Krishna life.

Raj Niwas bagh Raj Niwas consists of a palace, tanks and terrace gardens that were mainly used by Sawai Ram Singh – II. He used to spend his summers in the palace for rejuvenation from the stately activities. Water from tanks used to flow on both sides of the road enabling the Ghat to remain cool and green during the hot months of summer.

Vidhyadhar ka BaghThe garden was built in 18th century in the memo-ry of Vidhyadhar Bhattacharya who was the archi-tect of the pink city of Jaipur .It was conceptualized on the Char Bagh plan of Mughal gardens.
