Holiday Decorations
As we enter the holiday decorating season, please use the following excerpt from the Fort Leavenworth Frontier Heritage Communities Resident Guidelines and Community Handbook when deciding how to decorate your home. Holiday Decorations/Outside Lighting Holiday lighting and decorations may be displayed during the month of or 30 days prior to the celebrated holiday, whichever is longer. All decorations are required to be removed within two weeks after the occasion. Decorations, which may be considered offensive to other residents and guests, are prohibited. Any decorations operated by electricity are not authorized during daylight hours and must be turned off no later than 11pm. Holiday decorations and outside lighting may not be placed on roofs or roof gutters. The use of staples, nails, screws, or other mechanical fasteners to attach decorations or lighting to the homes and associated structures is prohibited. Plastic clip- on hooks may be commercially obtained and used to attach decorative lighting, garlands, etc. Attachment of anything to vinyl siding is prohibited. Additionally, electrical decorations must be unplugged when Residents are away from the home. Outside lighting must be Underwriters Laboratories (UL) approved and factory listed for outside use. Running electric cords through windows and doors or across heating ducts or ventilation systems is prohibited, as this causes a fire safety hazard. All exterior lighting must be Ground Fault Indicator (G.F.I) protected. Residents are reminded that homes have limited amp circuits and care must be taken to prevent overloading. Please ensure that all decorations, toys, patio furniture, garden hoses and other items that might impede the Barren team from the maintenance of your yard are put away on your scheduled mowing day. Bulk Pickup
Bulk Pickup is available every Monday. Please remember to place your bulk items by the curb no later than 6:00 a.m. to ensure that those items get picked up.
Beginning the week of September 30th, Barren Outdoor Solutions will be performing bi-weekly yard
maintenance. Please ensure that all toys, patio furniture, garden hoses and other items that might impede
the Barren team from the maintenance of your yard are put away on your scheduled mowing day. Schedule
is subject to change due to inclement weather. When a weather delay occurs, work will be moved back by
one calendar day. This will be done until all areas are serviced within the calendar week. Any resident that
has leaves/lawn clippings may place them in a bag at the curb on your scheduled mow day and Barren
Outdoor Solutions will dispose of them. Barren will also be scheduling shrub/bush trimming, stay tuned for that
update!

Fire Prevention Week October 6th - 12th, is Fire Prevention Week and Frontier Heritage Communities (FLFHC) would like to remind residents of the importance of fire
safety in an effort to prevent death, injury and structure damage in the event of a fire. Do you have a fire evacuation plan in place? If not, it is a
good time to start! Create a plan with primary and alternate routes of escape in the event of a fire and designate a place to assemble after
escaping a fire. Establishing and practicing an escape plan as a family activity can save the lives of loved ones.
The following are some of the Fire Prevention and Regulations which can be found in Section 5 of the Resident Handbook.
Never leave young children unattended! Familiarize your babysitter with your family’s escape plan. The babysitter’s first duty is to get the
children out!
Basements are not to be used for sleeping quarters, to include homes that may have a walk-out basement.
Keep matches, lighters, candles, flammable liquids and similar materials out of the reach of children. Do not allow children to play in heater
rooms, attics, under buildings, or near vacant buildings, or on construction sites.
Smoking in bed is strictly prohibited on Fort Leavenworth. Noncombustible ashtrays of ample size should be used for disposal of smoking
materials. All burning embers must be totally extinguished prior to emptying ashtrays. Empty all ashtrays into metal containers; never use
plastic containers for disposal of smoking materials indoors. Make it a habit to inspect all upholstered furniture prior to retiring.
If a fire occurs, upon reaching safety, promptly notify 9-1-1. Wait at a safe distance to direct the fire department and advise them if all people are
out of the building. After reaching safety and notifying 9-1-1, please contact FLFHC Maintenance at (913) 651-3838 to report the fire. All fires must
be reported to FLFHC regardless of size and whether or not they have been extinguished. This is true for fires reported to the fire department and
those handled without fire department assistance.
