It was a great time for fellowship while making the pies and we thank all the women and men, members and non members, who came every other Wednesday to help out. At this time, we will still be having the butter cookies in colorful baskets available. The Swe-dish Bakery has closed its doors this month as well, so no famous Swedish goods will be available. Thank you for your support all these years. Sincerely, Jane Hammar

Staffing UpdateStaffing UpdateStaffing UpdateStaffing Update We’re going through a staffing transition in the Youth and Family Ministry area. We have enjoyed having Chauncey Harrison on our team for the past year. Our prayers and best wishes go with him as he continues his work and ministry.

The process has begun to fill the vacant position of Youth and Family Ministry Director. The Council, recog-nizing our congregation’s desire to keep our children, youth, and family ministries strong, has determined that the position will continue to be full-time. Our usual pro-cess is to advertise the opening broadly, and receive ap-plications, resumes, and references. Prospective candi-dates interview with Pr. Sparby, and then the finalists are interviewed by a group. Keep the process in your pray-ers. Thanks you!

Inquiries, and/or resumes and three references should be sent to Pr. Michael Sparby at [email protected].

Deacon Carole EdwardsDeacon Carole EdwardsDeacon Carole EdwardsDeacon Carole Edwards Last year I attended the leadership-training program, “Clergy Clinic in Family Emotional Process.” I have two more 3 day sessions this year. The program focuses on healthy ways to deal with anxiety levels and their impact on family members (i.e. “church family”). Congregations and fami-lies are very similar in that they operate within systems of learned behavior. Often the coping methods we learned as a child, and our response to stress and anxiety, carry over from our nuclear family experiences. They can man-ifest themselves in some unhealthy behavior. An exam-ple of this would be having a grievance with someone, but not going directly to that person, but rather talking to another person about the person you have the griev-ance with. This is referred to as “triangulation,” and is defined as “a manipulation tactic where one person will not communicate directly with another person, instead using a third person to relay communication to the sec-ond, thus forming a triangle” ” ” ” Too often, we fall into old habits of triangulation which result in negative and de-structive behavior patterns that don’t actually resolve anything. When we learn new, healthy ways to respond to stress, anxiety, and conflict, we begin relating to each other in healthy and constructive ways. If you’re inter-ested in learning more about this, I’ll be glad to share what I’ve learned.

Featuring our adult and children’s choirs, handbells, praise team, and various instrumentalists. The Feast of Life reminds us of the banquets mentioned in Luke's Gos-pel and invites us once again to hear and experience the stories of Jesus. This musical will take us from the birth of Jesus to his death and resurrection, ending in a joyous celebration! We are fortune to have soloists Synoma Hays and guest Bruce Moore joining us as our feature soloists this year. Mark your calendars now for the cumu-lating event of our Music Ministry’s year.

San Lucas is planning to bring teachers/students to visit us in Chicago in 2017.

We are very excited to welcome them! If you would like to support the student’s trips financially simply mark the memo portion of your check “Argentina students,” or do the same if you give electronically. Thanks!

This is a very exciting time for our partnership. We’ve hosted several teachers, sent two mission trip groups form Edison Park, and now will welcome these wonder-ful students. While here they will also connect with sev-eral area Lutheran schools. They have begun partner-ships over the internet, and will broaden their relation-ships with this visit.
