The Product Review WorksheetI have made VERY good money creating what I call Ghetto Product Review Sites. I regularly average anywhere from $1400/month per site to as low as $300/month - passively - from simple one-page Ghetto Review Sites.

Why are my review sites more successful than the average affiliate out there?

1. My review sites aren’t crap. I spend a lot of time setting them up to be of value to the visitor.

2. I take the time to make an informative video review of the product, including it’s flaws, pro’s and cons (obviously pushing the benefits more than the drawbacks though since I don’t promote crap products)

3. Then once they are “sold” that Product X can solve Problem Y, I offer them an exclusive Super Bonus they can get but ONLY if they use my affiliate link.

4. Finally, I automate the whole process using a “secret” software that is cheap, that I will show you later in the training - that automates the delivery of my Bonus and more importantly builds me an email list of the BUYERS. Then I can begin the process of selling them more stuff.

Here are some critical guidelines about making Product Reviews:

Why is reviewing a product a good way to sell affiliate products? Because potential customers want to know what they're purchasing and often a potential customer will be researching something on a certain topic, when they come across a product sales page.

Some of those potential customers will go to a search engine to find some reviews. Actually, a good percentage of the people that hit a sales page will go ahead and search for reviews in the main search engines.

That's where we come on... we'll help them out:)

Rules of Thumb:Here’s some great insight from a fellow IM’er named Chris Rempel who wrote: "Your job as an affiliate isn't to “sell”. That is the merchant's job. Instead, your role is going to be either one of pre-selling, or aiding a purchase decision. That's essentially what it breaks down to."

I really like this line:

“You job isn’t to sell.”

If you think about the mindset of the person who is searching for reviews, what they want it validation that they’re not making a WRONG decision.

So we want to “meet them where they’re at” psychologically when they’ve arrived at our review site.

“Pre-selling is a tone. It's not a “formula” or a process. It's how you communicate. Essentially, preselling is helping, where hard-selling is all about “convincing”. There are rare cases where “convincing” may be effective, but in general, it's an uphill battle.

Preselling in the form of a Product Review, on the other hand, is all about providing value, or a review or a story – or otherwise something that gets your visitor excited about the topic that your offer relates to directly.

For example, if you're promoting a guitar course, you can talk about how you went from “string snapping newbie” to a smooth-as-butter blues guitarist by following a certain practice routine that seemed to work a lot faster than traditional lessons.

At or near the end of your story, you can talk about the course (or person who wrote the course) introduced you to that style of learning, and recommend it accordingly.

This TONE has a far greater effect on a visitor than a hard-sell approach because they're reading it out of interest – and not subliminally objecting to your content if it's clearly just an attempt to sell.

This doesn't mean “hide the fact you're selling”. Not at all. (In fact, you are required to clearly disclose this anyway).

But what it does mean is consider your intent. People do not care if you stand to profit from something that you believe in, have researched or has worked for you. Again, what matters is your tone. If you're honestly trying to help – it shows. And if you're just there to make money – that also shows, and your results will suffer.

So you can apply this overall tone in your Product Reviews.

Let me give you an example. Here's two text ads. One hard sells, and the other one pre- sells...

Ad #1:

Knock 15 Strokes Off Your Game – Or Your Money Back!

Yes! It's absolutely true! Using the XYZ Golf Swing System, you can easily and effortlessly boost your golf game practically overnight (and have your buddies scratching their heads)!

Don't be the “newbie” any longer – Order XYZ today!

Ad #2:

Can a Simple “Switch” Really Knock 15 Strokes Off Your Game?

As a fellow golfer, I can relate to the endless inundation of “promises” like this. We see it all the time. (And as they say – if it's too good to be true...)

But in this case, well... I'll let you watch the video and see for yourself. (Hard to argue with results like that...)

See the difference?

One “sells” and the other “tells”. Apply this tone to your Product Reviews and you'll almost always see an increase in click-thru and sales conversion....

And on that note, I also always try to use “non-objectable” calls to action that use curiosity over hype. For example, instead of using commands like “buy it here” or “order today”, I'll re-word that so it's easier for someone to follow. Some examples would be:

“Check out his story here”

“Click here to see a sample video of a guitar lesson”

“It definitely worked for this guy -> click here”

Even something simple like “check out their site here” is going to be far more effective than the typical “buy now” links, because there's a lot less subconscious objection towards checking something out than there is towards buying it.”

Here is My Product Review Formula:

The whole reason why your visitors are searching for reviews is so that they can get an unbiased opinion. If your reviews are nothing more than a promotion in style, you will see very few sales.

Act more like a reporter, instead of a “reviewer”. Definitely exude passion for the product, tell them why you love it, why you use it, etc., but you want to sound more like you’re super excited telling a buddy in a bar over a beer... vs. a cheesy salesman trying to “push.”

I was recently helping my brother and his friend with his mountain climbing website. When they changed the tone to from “cheesy salesman” to “we’re one of you, we understand climbing, and we are super pumped about this new pair of climbing shoes we just tested...” results skyrocketed. I hope you see the difference.

Here are the “Stages” to Writing a Ghetto

Product Review.

Stage One: Before You Write Your Review:

1. Read the ENTIRE vendor sales letter. As you read make a list of key ideas you noticed

2. Read the Product you are reviewing.

3. Keywordspy - Spend 15 minutes looking at most profitable ads and make note of the hot buttons and benefits they are using. Note which you can use on your review site.

4. Browse the most viewed / most popular articles on EZA, YouTube and Squidoo. I don't spend much time doing this, only 15 minutes and allow my eyes to wander over the most popular titles to see if anything "hits me." Make note of any new angles, hooks, benefits you may use.

5. What will be your main Hook?

What angle are you going to take with your review?

For Jamorama Learn Guitar, a killer hook might be "over 475 hours of online videos and 14 rock instructors."

When I market PBC, the hook I use is "we have over 1,000 pages of training videos, audios, downloads and the most active forum in the industry on marketing." I mean, that is a killer hook!

When promoting BacklinkNirvana.com as an affiliate, my hook is "backlinks are a pain to find on your own, so use this service that gets you ranking without having to spend a ton of time chasing down obscure backlinks."

What will be your main Hook?

If in doubt, I might go with the strongest hook that Keywordspy uncovers for me when looking at the most profitable ads for the keyword.

In summary...

Okay in truth I rarely go through ALL those steps in that exact order. Often I will find my hook at some point and then I will usually run with the ball. However there have been times where it has been challenging to find a good hook and I will go through this entire process. I am just telling you what works for me.

Stage Two: Getting Ready to Write the Review:

A. If reviewing a popular product, there's going to be a lot of people out there asking questions about the product. YOU NEED TO FIND OUT WHAT QUESTIONS PEOPLE HAVE ABOUT THIS PRODUCT OR SIMILAR PRODUCTS. What I am after here are...

"What Questions Do People Have that Must Be Answered BEFORE They Will Buy?"

“What questions do people have about this product?”

(This is the single biggest reason people are seeking for product review before purchasing. They have some lingering doubts and worried and they need reassurances.)

Visit niche forums and yahoo answers and search by product name. What questions are people asking? For example are people asking if Product x is a scam? That is a good sign because they want the product but are scared due to the hype. So, if your review could answer the question regarding the product being a scam, then you're golden.

For example: If promoting an acne cure product many want to know if it is a scam. They claim it can cure acne in 3 days. A good thing to put in your product review is to say that it's unlikely that their acne will be eliminated in just three days but there is an excellent chance of working within a few weeks if you follow the method... etc.

hat's all there is to it. Seriously.

Here are sample questions that potential customers have before buying:

1. Does this product have a good reputation out there?

2. What will this product do for me? What is the result and does it work?

3. Is the order process secure?

4. What if the guy doesn't give me my money back?

5. Has this worked for anybody else?

6. Who is this product for (and not for)? Who would benefit from buying this product? (eg. "Product X is perfect for people who are just getting into internet marketing however it is not the best for those with extensive IM experience instead product y is better...")

7. What exactly do I get when I buy this?

8. What aspect of this product did you find most useful?

9. What are the top things I liked about this product, what was revealed that was awesome, what really worked well?

10. What was left out of the product?* (this is great to know for creating a must-have bonus that fills this product gap) You MUST bring up a flaw IMO or your review will sound like bullsh*t. After reading the sales page were you disappointed that a certain point wasn't covered enough? Was there a segment in the product that was vague that you wished was covered better? Then tell them. People prefer honest reviews. No product in the world is perfect, so do point out the flaw. Then make a bonus that fixes that flaw, making it the perfect compliment to the product you're reviewing:)

11. How would you summarize this product? Come up with a product description on your own words that is about 3 paragraphs long. Don't sell just state facts and summarize the main product hook.

12. What are the Pro's?

13. What are the Con's?

14. What do actual customer's feedback say about product?

15. Lastly, do you recommend this product and why? How would you rate the product vs. others you've encountered?

Stage Three: Gather Actual Customer Feedback

Gather three Actual Customer Feedback from vendor's website and forums. Search "product + forum". If you cite a customer feedback from another site, say so in this format:

Warning: ONLY use “satisfaction” comments. Avoid “results” comments. This helps you altogether avoid running into problems in terms of misrepresentation and the FTC's new guidelines regarding testimonials and average results. Never, ever fake testimonials. It is stupid and unnecessary.

I am not always able to locate decent Actual Customer Feedback. In those cases I just skip it or write about my OWN personal experiences using the product.

Stage Four: What Would be a Good Review Headline?

What might be a good headline for your product review?

Examples.

"Product XYZ Review - Can It Cure Your Acne in Just Two Weeks? We Expose the Real Truth"

--> Tip - I like to focus my headline on what I think is the MOST pressing question that buyers want answered before they complete their purchase. This is not a 100% rule but often is a successful angle that I take.

"Shocking Jamorama Review - Don't Burn Your Money! Read My Unbiased Jamorama Review"

“Rocket Spanish Review - Before Buying Rocket Spanish, Make Sure You Read Pro's and Con's First. This video reveals my experiences...”

"Linkvana Review - Is It REALLY the Best Way to Rank #1 In Google?"

Stage Five: What might be a good call to action in your product review?

A favorite that works best for me is that they'll get my must-have bonus if they use my affiliate link. I don't hide the fact that I am affiliate but they also are going to get a killer bonus ONLY if they use my link.

Stage Five: Should you do a Video Review?

Fact: Roughly 75% of internet users are hanging out watching videos on youtube.com at any point in time. Amazing right? Most folks seem to prefer watching a video than reading long text these days. Give them what they want, is what I say!

Tip: I do both. I have a text summary plus a video review on almost all my review sites. That's what works for me.

That is the general guidelines and thought process behind writing a Ghetto Product Review.

The Ghetto Product Review Worksheet

The OVERVIEW: What we want to accomplish is…Build the review around solving the #1 problem in that market. Then tell them why they need to buy this affiliate product and give a review on the products benefits. Then say if you buy now through my affiliate link, you will get this super bonus, but I am only giving away a limited number.

Here is the *perfect" Product Review Formula...

1. State CLEARLY the Problem and why they are trying to solve it (meet them, at the place they’re at mentally when arriving, as they are here to fix a problem. Let them know that and you have a solution!)

3. Now Introduce Product X as *perfect* solution for them. That you pretty much think most products out there aren't worth the paper they're (not) printed on, but you finally ran across a product that is both inexpensive and is real,y really effective at solving problem x.

4. The Video Review!

All my tracking shows that Videos “sell” better than text. Later in this training I will show you how to make a Poor Man’s Video Review without needing any expensive equipment or software. Below is a VERY effective outline that I try to follow when making video reviews. *At certain times I do vary this, depending on the product I am reviewing, such as Backlink Nirvana where I actually had to do a bunch of educating to get people to understand what the product does. The Outline Format below is VERY powerful. This will also work as text if you choose to do a written-only Product Review.

✴ Show vendors website, so they get “comfortable” with the idea of visiting it

✴ Show checkout process, stress fact it's secure ordering

✴ One "flaw" I discovered (something I wish was covered) or a trick/tip/secret that I know that was NOT covered in this product
