WelcomeWELCOME SPECKLE PARK BREEDERS AND SOON TO BE SPECKLE PARK BREEDERS, Canada is known for hockey, maple syrup, bacon, whisky and now the Speckle Park beef breed. This Canadian breed has now gained attention across the globe and is something Canadian breeders are very proud of. Whether in the cold of Western Canada or the heat of Australia and New Zealand, this tough easy-keeping breed can adapt and flourish. We would like to thank our fellow Speckle Park breeders in Western Canada who developed this breed and have been a great resource to us all here in Ontario. We would also like to acknowledge one of our Ontario consignors, Henry Poortinga who brought the first Speckle Park cattle to Ontario in 1996. This, the first edition of the annual Herd Builder - Ontario Speckle Park Sale, is an offer of some of the best stock that Ontario has to offer. The goal of the sale is in the name “Herd Builder”, and has been established for existing Speckle Park Breeders to share their genetics with new breeders, so we can collectively establish a sustainable and profitable Speckle Park market here in Ontario. It’s important to note that these Ontario consignors believe in the vision of market development and as a result are consigning quality cattle that typically would be retained for their own breeding program. Expect to see working, durable cattle in the sale. No fluff, just true cattle! While this breed is predominantly known for their high quality carcass traits, our group of Ontario consignors have also noted:• Highly efficient feed conversion • Good hard feet• Excellent udder structure through many lactations• Highly reproductive bulls and females• Excellent mothering traitsAs consignors we want to make October 18th more than just another cattle sale. We are honoured to have Rod Remin attending from Crossfield, Alberta. Mr. Remin is the Canadian Speckle Park Association (CSPA) Business Manager and Director. He wrote the petition to the Minister of Agriculture to amend the Association’s Articles of Incorporation, so that the status of Speckle Park changed from an evolving breed to a distinct breed. Mr. Remin will be attending to conduct a breed education seminar in the sale ring, one hour prior to sale start (11:30am – 12:15pm). He will also be on the auction block describing pedigrees and cattle footnotes. While viewing cattle or attending the breed seminar, enjoy delicious Speckle Park BBQ beef on a bun. You be the judge and taste the difference! A portion of the BBQ proceeds will be donated to a newly created, CSPA Herd Builder Youth Travel Fund. As consignors, we sincerely appreciate your interest in Speckle Park cattle and this first annual sale. All consignors will be present in the barn prior to the sale, so please come out early and visit with them about their cattle and breeding programs. If you can’t attend, the sale will be broadcast online at www.davidcarson.on.ca . A final, but important thank you to our Herd Builder sale sponsor: Shur-Gain/Sinden Feeds.
CATTLE VIEWING OPENS AT 10:00AM ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER THE 18TH. See you sale day! Herd Builder Group of Consignors
