● Hercules was the son of Zeus the mighty god● His mother was named Alkmene and his mortal father was Amphitryon● His parents were both from Argos, but had to flee to Thebes because of a
fight that turned deadly between his mortal father and his uncle● Hera, Zeus’s wife, was jealous of Hercules so she delayed his birth so his
cousin would be born first to become the ruler of Greece
Birth
● Hera made Hercules childhood extremely tough ● She sent two snakes into his crib, but Hercules killed them both● He had a short temper and was naive● He was sent to the mountains to toughen up ● There he met a centaur named Cheiron who trained him
Childhood
● Queen Hera made Hercules go insane which caused him to kill his family● As penance for killing his family, Apollo had Hercules perform 12 labors ● The 12 labors were:
-the Nemean Lion -the Belt-the Lernean Hydra -the Cattle-the Hind -the Apples-the Boar -Cerberus-the Stables-the Birds-the Bulls-the Horses

● Hercules was the strongest and greatest of all heros on earth.● Though Hercules was not intelligent, he had confidence and was
extremely brave.● Hercules adventures did not end when he was done with the twelve labors,
he still accomplished many heroic acts.● For example, he rescued many damsels in distress, and fought even more
immortals, such as Apollo.● He also helped the gods in their tough battle against the Giants, who were
trying to take over Mount Olympus.
Life as a Hero
● After Hercules died, he was made into a god.
● He married Hebe, Hera’s daughter.● Besides his marriage, he didn’t do
anything as a god.
Life as a God
● People now use the story of Hercules as entertainment● There are many movies and books of his life● His story has come a long way and is very popular
