LAKELANDCOLLEGE.EDU HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS SAFETY Lake Land College’s police officers are on duty 24 hours a day and provide a full range of law enforcement services to assist in providing students, faculty and staff with a safe and secure environment. The Police Department practices community policing and provides many services for students and employees including crime awareness programs, escorts, assistance with motorist emergencies, correction of safety hazards and processing of lost and found items. HEALTH SERVICES Lake Land College Health Services is available to all students free of charge. The college nurse can discuss and answer any questions in regards to physical disorders or health-related circumstances and provides emergency first aid treatment as well as various medical services. NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION New students with no previous college coursework beyond high school who plan to seek a degree or certificate of 24 or more credit hours will participate in New Student Orientation. After completing the Intent to Enroll, new students can expect to receive information about orientation and placement testing beginning in March for summer and/or fall enrollment and October for spring enrollment. PLACEMENT TESTING All degree-seeking students and/or students planning to enroll in a math or English course must have ACT/SAT or Lake Land College placement test scores on file. Students will be mandatorily placed in appropriate courses based on placement test scores or ACT/SAT scores, whichever is higher, and chosen program of study. If a student’s record includes more than one set of scores, the highest scores recorded are used for placement. One retest is allowed in each of the three areas with a retest fee of $5 per test – limit of two sets of scores within a four-year period. TUTORING The Tutoring and Testing Center offers tutoring in specific subjects. Students may arrange a one-time session or regular ongoing appointments based on their needs. Tutoring is free to all students, made possible by college funding and grants, and is available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and later by appointment. FINANCIAL AID The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, is required to determine students’ eligibility for federal, state, and institutional financial aid, including grants, student loans, work study, and many scholarships. The FAFSA for the 2020-2021 academic year is available starting October 1, 2019 and can be completed at fafsa.gov using your 2018 tax information.

Be sure to include Lake Land College’s school code, 007644, on your application. The earlier you apply, the better. By getting a head start on the application process, you will be eligible for priority funding and make better decisions on how to plan for your education.

SCHOLARSHIPSLake Land College Foundation Scholarships are awarded to students based on a wide range of criteria. Each year, the Foundation awards students more than $400,000 worth of scholarships in a range of amounts up to $5,000. Only one application is required to be considered for all Foundation Scholarships. Applications should be completed annually as scholarships are awarded on a one year basis. Applications for the 2020-2021 academic year will be accepted from November 1, 2019 – February 1, 2020.

Lake Land College is pleased to guarantee a Presidential Scholarship to all eligible in-district high school graduates who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance. The scholarship covers the full cost of tuition for up to two years.

Students who meet one of the following criteria are eligible for the Presidential Scholarship: 1.) are in the top 15 percent of students in the senior class; or 2.) have an ACT composite score of 26 or higher/SAT total score of 1230 or higher.

Qualifying students must also: 1.) reside in the Lake Land College district at the time of graduation; 2.) graduate from a high school located in the Lake Land College district; or 3.) graduate from a high school serving a portion of the Lake Land College district.
