How do we make Big Society equal and inclusive? Voice4Change England’s Shared Vision for the BME voluntary and community sector suggests how this can be achieved. Launched at the V4CE fringe events at the 2010 Party Conferences, we wanted to make sure equality and social justice were at the centre of the Big Society debate.

Pledges to our Shared Vision

Media Trust believes that everyone should have a voice and the opportunity to be heard. V4CE plays a key role in making this happen for communities that are often invisible and unheard. Caroline Diehl (Chief Executive) Media Trust

An effective BME voluntary sector is vital to ensure that equalities are taken seriously by local and national government and that services are really open to all in the difficult climate that lies ahead. Andy Gregg (Chief Executive) Charities Evaluation Services

The Evelyn Oldfield Unit supports refugee and migrant community organisations through a programme of capacity building activities, including workshops, training sessions, consultancy and collaborative events. The aims of the organisation are to support RMCOs and the wider voluntary and community sector to find new ways to work together, to reach out and transform the lives of excluded and marginalised individuals.

They are spearheading ‘Shakti’, a domestic violence project funded by the Northern Rock Foundation with support from the Sunderland network, and are investigating the barriers to BME women accessing employment and training as part of the Network's successful BME Employment Access Project. They also organise a Diwali Celebration every year for the local community.
