Inaugural Workforce Development Summit a Success

In response to California’s Strong Workforce Initiative, close to 100 career technical education (CTE) faculty, staff, and administrators from throughout the District gathered together on October 21 to discuss new CTE program opportunities and ways to enhance and expand current offerings. This inaugural Strong Workforce Summit addressed key strengths of our CTE programs, such as high quality faculty and high job placement rates. Needs were also identified, including facilities and equipment upgrades, alumni tracking, and a mentorship program. NOCCCD received a Strong Workforce Initiative allocation of $3.7 million from the State for the 2016-17 academic year, which must be spent by January 31, 2018. Proposals are being developed at the campus level for a District-wide workgroup to review. Based on these proposals, a District-wide plan will be submitted to the State Chancellor’s Office for approval.
