How Your Used Shoes Help Animals & People

The Helotes Humane Society is holding a shoe drive to raise funds for the care of abused and homeless ani-mals in our community. But how does a shoe drive help animals?

We collect gently used shoes and they are purchased from us by Funds2Org. Our goal is 2500 pairs of shoes by Mother’s Day.

Families in developing countries who receive shoes from Funds2Orgs are those who have little to no in-come or livelihood. The ability of donated shoes to be sold or repurposed, represent an opportunity for indi-vidual families and their communities to develop micro-businesses within their areas. It is the only possibility for true self-sustainability. In a nutshell, the Funds2Orgs definition of micro-enterprise works like this: 1. US organizations and nonprofits collect shoes that are picked up by Funds2Orgs and sent to hub operators in developing nations. 2. Hub operators pay Funds2Orgs a small fee, then sell the collected items to micro-entrepreneurs with a small mark-up. 3. Micro-entrepreneurs clean and repair the items and begin selling for a profit. The micro-enterprise industry represents one of the most effective ways to lift many families out of the ex-treme poverty in devastated economies. Funds2Orgs is dedicated to helping these micro-entrepreneurs live a better life, while helping charities like the Helotes Hu-mane Society make a difference in their communities.

Shoes = $$ for Animals & $$ for Micro Enterprise!

Win ! Win !

Our best customer?

Bruce Mays is definitely a “cat person”.

He’s adopted 5 cats from HHS over the

years including these two Judy and

Joey. Thanks for giving them a loving

home!

Doubling Up! Animals never cease to amaze us. More examples of this occurred within our foster homes recently when two nursing mother cats, Sunkist and Bee Bee took on additional orphaned kittens to nurse while still nursing their own litters! Both Mama cats took to their new charges right away without blinking an eye! We think they deserve an award!

PET OF THE MONTH

Charlotte Before & After

Charlotte was found by a Good Samaritan who picked her up off the street and called us. She had suf-fered two broken legs but was soon recovering in foster care.

She is just a little over a year old and is very sweet girl. She now loves to run in the yard and play fetch. She likes to play keep away with her toys but eventu-ally will bring them back to you wanting to play some more! She has dog friends at her foster's house and they play a lot. She is spayed, current on her shots and microchipped. She is housebroken, crate trained and will sit for treats. If you'd like to meet Charlotte, con-tact Helotes Humane Society at [email protected] or 210.422.6242.
