Helly Hansen pile retains a layer of air that insulates against cold. The materials ventilate to let excess heat and perspiration escape. This supports your body’s physiology in maintaining the comfort zone.

Helly Hansen Bodywear is made of polypropylene that absorbs no moisture. Excess heat and perspiration is transported away from the body and prevents the chilling effect when moisture evaporates.

Helly Hansen protection layer keeps wind, rain and snow out. The protection layer offers varying functionality tailored to your specific needs - waterproof clothing for fishermen and construction workers; high visibility clothing for roadwork and/or flame retardant clothing for rig workers.

Helly Hansen invented the Three-Layer System™ which keeps you dry, warm and safe while you work - even when you are exposed to extreme cold, wind or rain. In 1878, Helly Hansen won a prize at the international exhibition in Paris for its waterproof clothes for fishermen and sailors. MULTI-COATING Our world-famous rain gear uses a multi-coating process that applies many thin coats of PU and/or PVC instead of one thick coat as most manufacturers do. The fabric, the number of coats, and the thickness of each coat varies according to the garment and its intended use. Multi-coating ensures that our rain gear is thoroughly waterproof.

SEAM-SEALING TAPE SEALWhen using the tape seal method, a tape is glued on the seam by the use of high temperature and pressure making the seam waterproof.

SEAM - SEALING MICROWELD™Helly Hansen rain gear garments are sewn with a specially developed monofilament thread designed to fuse into the garment during our Microweld™ process. This patented process uses microwaves to create a molecular bond that joins two fabric parts into one solid fabric. This seam is waterproof and extremely strong. The seam is actually stronger than the original fabric and will not split or leak.

STANDARDSRELATED TO HELLY HANSENPROTECTIVE GEAR

The first response to workplace hazards should be to eliminate the hazard at the source. This is not always possible, so Helly Hansen products are designed to protect against accidents or injuries. Employer, safety officer or individual worker must first identify and assess hazards and then choose clothing that provides sufficient protection. Helly Hansen tests products to current recognized industry standards, to ensure they provide the necessary protection. Compliance to the standards uses objective measurements to evaluate the materials used in personal protective equipment. The safety marking indicates compliance with the essential requirements for health and safety. Helly Hansen Workwear is intended to prevent accidents and injuries during work with risk of exposure to cold, heat, fire, rain and in limited visibility.

Product characteristics.

CSA and CGSB markings mean that the product fulfills the requirements for the relevant product category (FR, High Vis). This implies no guarantee that the product will prevent accidents or serious injuries if the user is exposed to such risks in a work environment.

CSA Z96High visibility apparel

This standard addresses apparel intended to provide visibility to wearer in both daytime and nighttime conditions. The standard sets requirements for the minimum area and colour performance for fluorescent background materials and striping for daytime visibility. The standard also sets minimum requirements for background materials and reflective striping, which provides nighttime visibility when illuminated by vehicle headlights. Three garment classes are established based on the amounts of fluorescent background and reflective striping material.

QC MOT APPARELHigh visibility apparel

This standard sets out the requirements for high visibility clothingfor road workers in the province of Quebec. This standard defines the background colour, retroreflection index, width, colour and pattern of the reflective bands.

BC MOT APPARELHigh visibility apparel

Traffic Control must wear safety apparel conforming to Class 3 garments meeting both the CSA Z96 standard and the WCB requirement. These garments require a fluorescent contrasting colour stripe that is a minimum 100 mm (4 in.) in width. The retro-reflective bands of tape used on these garments are at a minimum 50 mm (2 in.) in width and shall be of a contrasting colour to that of the background material.

CAN-CGSB 155.20Workwear for protection against hydrocarbon flash fire

This standard states the minimum requirements for performance of workwear worn for protection against hydrocarbon flash fire. This standard establishes performance requirements and test methods for evaluation of components used to construct workwear. Workwear meeting this standard is intended to provide a degree of protection to the wearer and reduce the severity of injury should a hydrocarbon flash fire occur, For the purpose of this standard “protective” does not mean that a wearer will suffer no burns if exposed to flash fire while wearing workwear meeting this standard.

ASTM 2733Standard specification for flame resistant rain gear for protection against flame hazards

This specification establishes applicable test methods, minimum physical and thermal performance criteria, a suggested sizing guide, and suggested purchasing information for rain gear for use by workers who are potentially exposed to industrial hydrocarbon fires or other petrochemical fire hazards.


ASTM F 1930 Standard test method for evaluation of flame resistant clothing for protection against flash fire simulations using an instrumented manikin

This test method covers quantitative measurements and subjective observations that characterize the performance of single layer garments or protective clothing ensembles in a simulated flash fire environment having controlled heat flux, flame distribution, and duration. This test method is used to provide predicted human skin burn injury for single layer garments or protective clothing ensembles mounted on a stationary instrumented manikin which are then exposed in a laboratory to a simulated fire environment having controlled heat flux, flame distribution, and duration. This test method is required as part of ASTM F2733 and NFPA2112.

EN 533Protective clothing - Protection against heat and flames - Material and material combinations for limited spread of flame

This European Standard specifies performance requirements for limited flame spread materials and material assemblies used in protective clothing. Protective clothing constructed from materials and material assemblies complying with this European Standard is suitable for protection against accidental contact with small igniting flames, in circumstances where there is no significant heat hazard. Three levels of performance are specified. lndex 1 materials do not spread flame but may form a hole on contact with a flame. lndex 2 materials and material assemblies do not spread flame and do not form a hole on contact with a flame. lndex 3 materials and material assemblies do not spread flame and do not form a hole on contact with a flame, they also produce limited afterflame.

CSA Z462Workplace electrical safety

This standard is the Canadian equivalent of the NFPA® 70-E. The development of this standard was based on the NFPA® 70-E with changes being made of Parts I, II and III to harmonize requirements with the Canadian Electrical Code.

Like the NFPA® 70-E this standard also defines hazard risk categories based on the arc performance ratings and categorizes the protective clothing required for each category.

NFPA® 70-EWorkplace electrical safety

This (U.S.) standard addresses electrical hazards in the workplace for employees working on or near energized parts. One of the primary objectives of NFPA® 70E is to provide a guide for employers to determine the appropriate amount of protection given to workers based on the potential hazards to which they could be exposed. An arc flash is a life threatening risk for employees working around energized parts.

This specification establishes applicable test methods, minimum physical and thermal performance requirements, suggested sizing and recommended purchasing information for rain gear for use by workers who may be exposed to the thermal hazards of momentary electric arcs and open flames.

ASTM F 1506 Standard performance specification for flame resistant textile materials for wearing apparel for use by electrical workers exposed to momentary electric arc and related thermal hazards

This performance specification covers the flame resistance of textile materials to be used for wearing apparel for use by electrical workers exposed to momentary electric arc and related thermal hazards. This performance specification does not cover coated fabrics commonly used in rain gear.

ASTM F 1959 Standard test method for determining the arc rating of materials for clothing

This test method is used to measure the arc rating of materials intended for use as flame resistant clothing for workers exposed to electric arcs that would generate heat flux rates from 84 to 25 120 kW/m2 [2 to 600 cal/cm2s].

Standards Terminology

Arc Rating - is a value that describes a materials performance when exposed to an electrical arc discharge. It is expressed in cal/cm² and can be derived from either the ATPV (Arc Thermal Performance Value) or the Ebt (Breakopen Threshold Energy) whichever is lower.

ATPV – Arc Thermal Performance Value is defined as the incident energy that results in a 50% probability of the onset of a second degree burn.

Ebt - Breakopen Threshold Energy is defined as the incident energy on a material or material system that results in a 50% probability of breakopen.

Breakopen – in arc testing, the formation of one or more holes in a material that may allow thermal energy to pass through.

HAF – Heat Attenuation Factor is the percentage of total energy that the fabric has prevented from reaching the panel sensors.

HISTORYSince we began making performance clothing in 1877 our products have been tested in the most extreme conditions on earth. We have been on both Poles, all oceans and the highest peaks in the world. Throughout, we’ve stood behind every product we’ve made. Today that tradition remains unbroken.

FIRST ORDERSInitial orders will be held until a credit line has been approved. Applications must be made on the form provided by Climate Technical Gear, or through Climate Technical Gear online application process. Since it could take two weeks to check credit references, immediate shipments can be made C.O.D., by credit card or with pre-payment of the order.

FREIGHTAll orders are shipped F.O.B. Dartmouth, N.S. or Surrey B.C.

PAST DUE ACCOUNTSA service charge of 1.5% per month will apply to all overdue balances. In addition, shipments will be held for customers whose accounts are past due.

SMALL ORDER CHARGEDue to the high cost of order processing all orders with a value of less than $200 will be assessed a service charge of $20. Back orders will be exempt from this charge.

CREDIT LINECredit limits will be established for each account and may be reviewed from time to time upon request. Should a customer exceed the credit limit, orders will be held until the customer’s credit line is brought up to date or approval has been given to increase the credit line limit.

WARRANTY RETURN POLICYIf you have questions or need to return defective product please contact the Customer Service Department at 1-800-565-7749 for a Return Authorization number.

Merchandise shipped as ordered may not be returned without an authorization number from the Dartmouth Office. After 30 days from date of shipment No Returns will be accepted. All returns within 30 days will only be accepted freight prepaid. All such merchandise returned will be subject to a 20% restocking charge if the items are in original packaging, which is not damaged or marked. Should the items require repackaging a 30% restocking fee will apply. No returns will be accepted on discounted, discontinued, or irregulars.

NOTEAll returned garments must be washed prior to their return or they cannot be inspected. Customers should enclose a note specifying the warranty problem and /or the location of the problem on the garment, as well as list specifics regarding style colour and size. The Return Authorization number should be written in large letters on the outside of the package.The Climate Technical Gear Warranty Department will inspect the product at no charge to you. If the Warranty Department determines, in its sole discretion, that the product has a defect covered under this warranty, we will repair, replace or issue a credit. If the defective garment is not repairable and an identical product is not available, we will replace it with a garment of comparable style and colour at our discretion.

Return authorizations not received within 30 days of issuance will be void and cancelled. Products purchased as irregulars/discontinued will not be authorized for return.

ORDER DISCREPANCIESDiscovery of discrepancies on your order must be reported to Climate Technical Gear Customer Service within 30 days of invoice date. All requests must be accompanied by complete invoice numbers. A request received after 30 days will not be accepted.

DAMAGED SHIPMENTSInspect all shipments carefully. Verify the total number of cartons and check for exterior carton damage. All claims for lost or damaged shipments must be made directly to the delivery carrier. Climate Technical Gear is not responsible for damage during shipment.
