We deliver to you a warm, heartfelt invitation to attend Heiva San Diego. This year we enhance our celebration and love of the song, dance and culture of Tahiti by including the islands of New Zealand and Hawaii - the Pacific Trian-gle. Our theme, “Natiraa, meaning a tie or knot” is symbolic of our strong sense of community with our Pacific island brothers and sisters as well as our commitment to sharing and carrying on these island cultures and traditions. We are very pleased to have partici-pants from Canada, Japan and Mexico join in our celebration as well!
Additional aspects of a Heiva in Tahiti traditionally included athletic sporting events. Race competitions of Va’a-outrigger canoe racing, javelin throwing, and various foot races are also a part of Heivas. Our Board of Directors are an-ticipating the inclusion of the Va’a race competition and other athletic sporting

events to be held in Mis-sion Bay on August 3rd. The Va’a race has re-ceived the support of the International Va’a Federa-tion (IVF). We were hon-ored to have Charles Villierme, President of IVF and Linda Dresbach, IVF’s Secretary General provide us with valuable insight on race sites and outrig-ger canoe racing formats. This year, the outrigger canoes will be provided by Newport Aquatic Cen-ter and two teams from Tahiti will be paddling in the waters of Mission Bay!

Heiva San Diego was honored to sponsor a Helix High student with her senior project Silipa Samoa and Pearls Of Polynesia Workshop . A letter from K. Sagale
“Sponsors, Thank you, so much for all your support in making my
senior project absolutely awesome. I had 17 little girls and 6 young boys participate in Pearls of Polynesia workshop. Each little pearl had the opportunity to share in each learning station at least 2-3 times through out the work-shop. There were 5 stations-dance, clothing, food, crafts, and artifacts/language. The participants and their families joined in on the raffle, the language portion, viewed and handled the artifacts. To end the workshop they were treated to a taste of Pride of Polynesia's Dance Revue of Samoan, Tahitian, Hawaiian & closed the workshop with the hula they learned in workshop. It was just amazing. Parents took home extra language forms, took tons of pic-tures and sampled some of the Ono Grinds food for them-selves. Thank you again for an awesome senior project.”
