• SPI 0507.10.2 Use data from an investigation to determine the method by

which heat energy is transferred from one object or material to another.

• Heat transfers in 3 different ways.

• THINK TIME:

• Who thinks they know one way that heat transfers through objects?

• We must understand HEAT.

_____________ is a measurement of the movement of particles of _________. The

_______ the particles are moving the _____ heat it has.

___________ is a measurement of _____________ in an object. It is measured using

________ , ___________, and ____________. Temperature is independent on how much

_______ there is.

• Conduction- the direct transfer of heat between objects that touch.

• Convection- the transfer of heat as a result of rising warm gas or liquid.

• Radiation- the transfer of heat through space by waves.

• heat transfer- heat moving from a warmer object to a colder object.

• conductor- a material that transfers heat and energy well. (metals, glass)

• insulator- a material that does not transfer heat or energy. (plastic, wood,

cotton)

Heat is a measurement of the movement of particles of matter. The

faster the particles are moving the more heat it has.

Temperature is a measurement of thermal energy in an object. It is

measured using Kelvin , Celsius, and Fahrenheit. Temperature is

independent on how much matter there is.
