Big News: AmadorArts Receives Grants of $67K from CA Arts Council

In June we received exciting announcements that ournumerous grant applications to the California Arts Council, aState agency, have resulted in funding of $67,240 for the2019-20 scal year. Furthermore, AmadorArts is nowconsidered one of the top 15 local arts agencies in the state, sharing the distinction with the likes of Orange, L.A., SantaCruz, Santa Clara, San Diego, Inyo, Nevada, Mariposa, ElDorado, and Del Norte Counties.

It is important to note that the rst two grants must benancially matched 1:1. That is why we are so grateful forindividual community donations and generous funding from groups like the Jackson Rancheria, AmadorCommunity Foundation, and the Amador County Board of Supervisors.

In a nutshell, here are the grants and their amounts:

AmadorArts will expand its new public ofce space in Jackson as a local CenterLocal Impact ($12,688):for the Arts, with daily open studio times for all ages, special exhibits and small performances of poetry, music and theatre. By opening the AmadorArts Center for individuals of all demographics to experiencea wide variety of arts activities, we will create a centralized space to teach, promote and celebrate allforms of the arts in our rural county. Exhibit ideas include: K-6th grades, LGBTQA+ Youth, SuicideAwareness, Black Heritage, Mule Creek Prison, Hispanic Heritage, Seniors, and Veterans. The grant willpay for a part-time assistant.

This is the “super grant” that supports operational expenses includingState Local Partnership ($44,552):administrative salaries, rent, insurance, and more. It’s been the one consistent source of major fundingfor over 30 years. This year, the amount was increased.

This funding will pay for free weekly workshops for participating high schoolPoetry Out Loud ($5,000):students for nearly two months before the Poetry Out Loud Finals. This is an extraordinary opportunity forteens to learn great poetry, perform it, master public speaking skills, while building self-condence.AmadorArts facilitates this program with the high schools.

The California Arts Council (CAC) is launching a specialEmergency Preparedness Initiative ($5,000):initiative to support the capacity and ability of arts organizations, artists, and communities at large torespond effectively to disasters and emergencies that affect their communities. AmadorArts is one of thegroups that will be actively involved.

AmadorArts Grateful for Successful Donor Drive

Thanks to the generosity of many businesses, individuals, and other entities, weare happy to announce that our goal has been surpassed! In addition to increased donor gifts, AmadorArts hasalso received additional grants from the California Arts Council (see article on page 3).

This show of nancial positivity sustains our current efforts. Now, according to Executive Director MeghanO' “We must continue the momentum to grow our nancial base so that we can provide even more artsKeefe, education to children, offer more free workspace for artists in need, and become a better resource for all artistsand arts lovers in our community.”

Major recent donations came from: Amador Community Foundation – $5000 for Arts Education; JacksonRancheria Casino Resort – $3000 for Arts Education and $1000 for the free TGIF Summer Concerts; Terra d'OroWinery – $1000 for TGIF; and Kaur Dental Group – $1000 for TGIF. Additionally, the Amador County Board ofSupervisors has once again budgeted for $5000 to be allocated to AmadorArts.

Private donations from individuals, businesses, and organizations, small to large, are ever-important. Accordingto O'Keefe, “Every cent makes a huge difference in the lives of students, residents and visitors throughout ourcommunity.” She added that in this past year, AmadorArts invested over $22,000 into arts education for ACUSDstudents, not including its staff time, student director mentorships, and broadcast time.
