Heart attackssss
Angina Pectoris
Description/Symptoms:– Usually presenting tight, dull, or heavy chest
discomfort.– Retrosternal or left-sided, radiating to the left
arm, neck, jaw, or back.– Associated with exertion or emotional stress
(SA) and relieved within several minutes by rest.
– Studies show that 64% of all unstable anginas occur between 10 PM and 8 AM when patients are at rest.
Myocardial Ischemia
Description/Symptoms• Described as a squeezing sensation,
with a feeling of heaviness on the chest.
• Causes permanent damage to the cardiac muscle.
• Lasts longer.
Management• Call for emergency (911) (117)• Oxygen• Aspirin• Nitroglycerin
SUSPECTING?
Gastroesophageal Reflux
Description/Symptoms• Pain resulting from gastric reflux into the
esophagus because of chair position.• Heartburn• Regurgitation• Dysphagia
Management• Should improve when the patient sits
up and is given an antacid.
Costochondritis
Description/Symptoms• Chest pain is respiratory in origin.
• Pain is stimulated by pressure on the thorax.
• Pain or tenderness to palpation usually occurs on the sides of the sternum, affects multiple ribs, and is often worsened with coughing, deep breathing, or physical activity.
