WHATTO CONSIDER BEFORE CHOOSING

HEARING PROTECTION

The effectiveness of hearing protection is specified by a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR); typically ranging from 15-35 decibels. In practice, the protection that normally can be achieved is about 10-20 decibels. Choosing the best fit and following fit instructions will provide a higher level of overall protection.

FOAM PLUGSFoam plugs, made from expandable slow recovery foam; provide the best combination of comfort and protection for most users. One size fits most. Once in the ear, foam plugs expand to provide a snug and secure custom fit.

HOW TO USE: Slowly roll and compress foam plugs into a very thin crease free cylinder. Whilecompressed, insert plug well into the ear canal. Fitting is easier if you reach around your head to pull the ear outward and upward during insertion.

PRE-MOLDED PLUGSPre-molded plugs are made from flexible materials which provide overall ease of insertion into the ear canal.

HOW TO USE: Reach around the back of your head and pull outward and upward on the ear while inserting the plug.Twist the plug to break the seal for a slow safe removal.

SEMI-INSERT DEVICEConsist of pods or flexible tips on a lightweight headband. These are quick to put on and take off. They are ideal for intermittent use.

HOW TO USE: Hold the large ends of the pods and swivel them to direct the tips into the ear canal openings. Firmly push and wiggle the pods into the canal until a snug seal is obtained.

EAR MUFFMuffs come in one-position or multi-position bands and are also sold in styles for attachment to hard hats. If you feelthe need for more protection; wear muffs and plugs together (dual protection) for additional 5-10 dB of noise reduction.

HOW TO USE: Muffs must fully enclose the ears to seal against the head. Adjust the headband so cushions exert even pressure around the ears to get the best noise reduction.
