The site has been subject to a risk assessment that has determined the appropriate level of first aid cover. This includes shift work. First aiders’ contact details are on the site notice board and the individuals have stickers on their hard hats. First aid boxes are maintained and their location is stated on the site notice board. Ensure you know where the first aid kit is kept Ensure all first aid signage is in place and not damaged Know who the first aiders or appointed persons are If working alone or in isolation, take a travel first aid kit with you Know where the phone is and understand the procedure for calling the emergency services Ensure that any item removed from a first aid box is reported/recorded so that the item can be replaced. In the event of an incident: Call for help (first aider) Ensure your own safety as you approach the casualty If safe to do so, remove the hazard from the casualty If appropriate, send someone to phone for an ambulance Do not move the casualty unless they are in immediate danger Remain with the casualty and give reassurance Make the casualty as comfortable as possible (provide blanket, etc) Do not give drinks, food or cigarettes to the casualty, although you may moisten their lips.
