Filipino Communities

Council of Australia, Inc.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome the delegates to this First FILCCA Youth Summit inPerth, Western Australia.

This is a dream come true to all community elders who have waited patiently for youthleaders across states and territories of Australia to come together under the fold of FILCCA,the national peak body of Filipino-Australians. Here you are and your presence is truly a joyto behold.

You could have done so many other things this weekend – things that occupy the fancy ofyour youth – that grabs your moments and attracted your attention. You could even haverejected the summit invitation altogether. The fact that you are here is enough reason for usto believe in your destiny as future leaders of Filipino-Australian communities.

Life is a faith journey animated by a force greater than ourselves. People who took thisjourney are driven by a vision reaching far and wide – aspiring for the more important thingsin life. The Book of Acts puts it this way. “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spiriton all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions andold men will dream dreams.”

You are the sons and daughters who will prophesy in this summit. You are also the youngmen and women who will not only see visions but will form and shape your visions in thissummit because destiny, according to William Jennings, is not a matter of chance but amatter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for but a thing to be achieved.

The summit will be your forum to listen to each other’s stories – a space to prophesy andshare your aspirations – a place to tell your story and in turn impart the Filipino story – thetime to know who you are and the noble stock where you came from – to ultimatelyunderstand how the Filipino nation was born.

When you reached the age of your elders, you will look back to this day and with a proudheart, affirm your life in the words of Napoleon Hill – “Cherish your visions and your dreamsas they are the children of your soul, the blueprints of your ultimate achievements”

You are what you can become. Congratulations and make the most of this summit.

Youth Empowerment in Action!“The youth is the hope of the Motherland.” Jose Rizal

1st FILCCA Youth SummitAbout the FILCCA Youth Summit

The 1st FILCCA Youth Summit gathers 18-35 year old Filipino-Australian leaders from across Australia to listen and learn from eachother’s story as they attempt to define their Australian aspirations in more concrete terms. From this summit, the youth is expectedto take on more challenging roles in shaping their destiny and areas of engagement as future leaders of the community.

The summit will provide our youth with the forum back dropped by patriotic elements of our history. Participants shall be inspiredby the great work of their local peers and enthralled by those who excelled in the Diaspora. Now is the time for the communityelders to unconditionally release the power of an empowered Filipino-Australian Youth by providing them a free space to expandtheir dreams and deploy their gifts and talents in shaping up our community of the future.

The Youth In Our Community

The Filipino-Australian youth are a talented lot. Most of them are high achievers in schools and universities. They came fromfamilies steep in faith and nurtured by our proud culture and traditions. They work hard in anything they do. These are positiveinfluences that made them goal oriented by default.

Early on, our young tag along with their parents in various community events. Cultural awareness came from families participatingin Filipino presentations and Filipino language programs. Evidently, their presence was more of duty and obligation. Beyond highschool, their presence in community events decreases proportionately.

Empowering the Filipino-Australian Youth Today

The absence of freedom in expressing their own view points of views and aspirations within communities left most of our youthdisconnected or indifferent with our community events. Evidently, our cultural and traditional presentations have not taken root intheir consciousness during their formative years.

The national psyche or the proper understanding of our historical perspectives has consequently been lost along the way becausethe portrayal of our national heritage did not go beyond the aesthetics of our community events.

Those who excelled outside the community have one common factor –they excelled because of the freedom afforded to them atcommunity engagements less influenced by or outside the sphere of their parents.

FILCCA Supporting the Youth Today

FILCCA representing the elders of the community is hosting this summit as a forum for our youth to listen to each other’s stories – aspace where they can speak out freely – a place to impart to them the Filipino story - the time to know who we are as a people andhow the Filipino nation was born.

Appreciating the roots of nationhood will allow our youth with the proper perspective of where their stock came from, where it isnow planted and how they can become active stakeholders and future leaders of our communities.

Philippine history is replete with the heroism of our youth and their love for the Motherland. They are both the sung and unsungheroes who sacrificed the comforts of their homes to fight for freedom in the gullies of war, the parliament of the streets and theterrains of the mountainside.

Our youth today are animating the new Filipinos in the Diaspora excelling highly in arts and sciences. Technological innovation hasbecome the new pathway to young Filipinos now seen at par with the best and the brightest in the Silicon Valley enterprise

In Australia, some are now engaged in Australian politics poised to take active leadership in major political parties.

”If we will not act, then who will act? If not now, then when? Let us stand up and take the lead. Let us start leading today”Ditto Sarmiento

The GK Enchanted Farm is Gawad Kalinga’s platform to raise social entrepreneurs, help local farmers and create wealth in the countryside. The road out of poverty is a continuing journey. Providing homes is merely the beginning. The country is abundant with resources that can be harnessed for every Filipino to continuously lead a life with dignity.

Gawad Kalinga is ‘an indigenous’ organisation of Filipinos helping Filipinos. It is also a global movement of nation-builders who are

committed to expanding the work and advocacy of caring and sharing throughout the world. In key areas around the globe, GK

leaders are building the highways of cooperation, as well as a platform where the rich and poor can come together to help build a better world.

Saladmaster has enjoyed a long period of great success built upon a world–beating product, second-to-none customer service, a genuine lifetime warranty, a high standard of ethics and the incomparable Saladmaster business opportunity, for full-time and part-time Consultants. Now with SEVEN quality showrooms around Australia, Saladmaster has the infrastructure to offer free cooking classes for its thousands of customers and world-class training for their prosperous sales Consultants. Saladmaster in Australia is aiming to double the number of showrooms nationally in the next three years and has a real commitment to excellence and long-term vision worth believing in. As with all great products and successes such as Saladmaster, there are always the questionable brands that “pop up” that try to make some money by misleading people into thinking that they, too, are products and companies of quality. These people don’t make the investment in engineering, manufacturing, high quality materials and customer service for consumers. They instead invest in lower cost, lower quality knock-offs using inferior materials from questionable sources and use “contract factories” since they don’t have any manufacturing experience, expertise or history. Saladmaster is the only premium cookware product line that has a lifetime warranty backed up by over 100 years of Regalware manufacturing products in their own factories—that is a lifetime warranty and a valuable commitment from a well-known company that you can trust. Make sure that the product you are getting is the real deal so that you will be eligible for the Saladmaster lifetime warranty and a lifetime of fun and free Saladmaster cooking classes delivered by trained experts in nutritious and delicious cooking! Filipino Community

Council of WA, Inc.

It is my pleasure to welcome you to this First WA leaders Forum to share ourideas, talk together and visioning about three main topics: Migrant issues (457)Seniors and Youth . Conceived by Marino Salinas the Founder and first Presidentof FCCWA in 2012.

To know that this activity can impact on peoples lives is such a motivating andinspiring feeling. When there is determination, there is triumph. If we remove the ‘N” in “KANYA KANYA” (I do it myself) habit it becomes“KAYANG KAYA” (We can do it easily together) Our mental vibration should befocused on good vision and not as “myself” attitude.

As an umbrella organization in Western Australia It is our vision to fosteropportunities to all leaders of various organizations to get together and share ourvisions and dreams. Together we go forward and Build Communities.

On behalf of the Executive Officers and Committee members of FCCWA, we wishto thank everyone for the collective effort in making this WA LEADERS FORUM agreat success.

To our Sponsors and benefactors, it is impossible to do this without your back-upand sponsorship. We want to express our sincere thanks and profound gratitudefor your generous support.

I wish all leaders remain wholeheartedly sincere and patient in rendering theirvoluntary services to the community. May the Divine Power guide us always.

DANTE C. MARIBBAYPresident FCCWA
