Health and Social Care Cambridge Technical Level 3 Diploma (QCF) Examination Board: OCR This is a two year course is the equivalent value of two A Levels. This course is suitable for those studying in preparation for employment or further and higher education in the health and social care sector—an important and expanding part of Britain’s economy and society. Assessment: Students follow the OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Diploma. The course is graded: Pass (equivalent to an A-Level grade E), Merit (equivalent to an A-Level grade C), Distinction (equivalent to an A-Level grade A) and Distinction* (equivalent to an A-level grade A*). At the end of the two year course, students are graded: PP, PM, MM, MD, DD, DD* or D*D*. All students have to complete Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3, Unit 4, Unit 6 and Unit 7, as they are mandatory units. Following these units there are another 30 possible units that students can study. Students at The Cotswold School currently take the following units. All of these units are internally assessed and externally moderated. Careers and Study Progression: This course provides good progression to further study in Further Education or Higher Education or direct entry to employment. At the end of the first year of the course, candidates will have achieved a Level 3 Introductory Diploma in Health and Social Care, which is the equivalent of one A Level. At the completion of the second year, candidates will have achieved the full Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, which is equal to two A Levels and recognised with UCAS points for university entrance. The health and social care sector is currently experiencing huge growth and provides a vast choice of fulfilling career and apprenticeship opportunities. Examples of the jobs available include: midwifery, nursing, physiotherapy, paediatrician, health worker, social worker, nursery manager, care home worker, occupational therapist, and counsellor.
