This course provides the opportunity to further your knowledge and skills gained through the Diploma of Remedial Massage.

Myotherapy focuses on the assessment and treatment of myofascial conditions and the relief of myofascial pain to return the body back to a normative neuromuscular state.

Through the study of myotherapy you will build on the knowledge and skills developed as a remedial massage therapist for the assessment and treatment in the preventative, corrective and rehabilitation phases of musculoskeletal care.

On successful completion of the course you will be able to:

This course will equip you with the essential skills and knowledge to work as an enrolled nurse in a variety of health care settings. You will learn how to implement basic nursing care, assess clients health and analyse health-related information.

During this course you will learn how to administer and monitor medications, and care for older clients, acute care clients and people with mental health conditions.

This course includes a minimum of 400 hours of mandatory clinical placement.

Please Note: Students studying the Diploma of Nursing at CAE City Campus will be required to attend some practical sessions at the Elgar campus of Box Hill.

This course will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to take intra-oral and extra-oral images for patients under instruction from the dentist. You will provide an advanced level of chair-side assistance to the dentist including contributing to the quality of dental care provided through well developed communication skills; participate in work health and safety matters and implement and monitor infection control policy and procedures.

This qualification contains electives to address specific workplace needs in line with jurisdictional Dental Acts and Regulations. This course is government accredited and has national recognition and is accredited by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).

Employment opportunitiesThis course may lead to employment as a dental assistant. The role will enable graduates to perform dental radiography procedures, interpret requests from a dental operator for a radiographic image, and produce the image. Graduates will be eligible to be licensed in intra-oral dental radiography from the Department of Health (Victorian Government).

Further study optionsYou may choose to continue study in order  to gain employment as a dental hygienist.

This course is suitable for those who are employed and provide technical support under a pharmacist’s supervision in a hospital setting, and those who supervise pharmacy technicians.

You will learn how to conduct small-scale compounding of general and aseptic pharmaceuticals, support pharmacists on the wards by collecting client information and test results, and assist in dispensing administration.

This course will equip you to learn how to support pharmacists by collecting and providing the right information. You will reflect on and improve your own professional practice, learn how to implement and monitor compliance with legal and ethical requirements, and learn how to provide mentoring support to colleagues.

You can choose to study the core unit – Conduct small-scale compounding of aseptic pharmaceutical products in your workplace or at Box Hill Institute.

This course gives you the knowledge and practical skills to safely and effectively perform the entry-level roles and responsibilities of a dental assistant, including preparation of dental room for patient treatment including sterilizing and disinfecting dental instruments. You will also develop skills to record findings from oral examinations and prepare, dispense and mix materials required for various procedures and gain the communication and administration skills required to work in a dental practice.

The on campus course combines training in our modern training facility utilising the Dental Assistant Online training program and resources with practical experience in  the workplace.

Dental assistant trainees utilise the Dental Assistant Online training program and resources to develop relevant knowledge and skills while liaising closely with our workplace supervisors to ensure training meets each students individual learning requirements. This course is government accredited and has national recognition and is accredited by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA).

Employment opportunitiesAs a dental assistant you are an integral member of the oral health team assisting in the provision of customer focused care for dental clients providing chair-side assistance and ensuring the clinical environment is hygienic and safe by supporting infection control practices. In addition to this you will be required to perform administrative and reception duties for the dental practice. 

Dental Assistants can work in private practice, community health, school dental and hospital dental clinics.

The operating theatre technician course will enable you to meet the requirements of specific work functions in operating theatre support such preparation and setup of the operating theatre prior to surgery. Through participation in this course you will also develop the skills and knowledge to communicate effectively with patients, clients and staff; develop a understanding of basic medical terminology and anatomy and learn how to transport and care for your clients, enabling you to deliver the highest standards of service. You will also learn the essentials of safe work practices, such as infection control, hazard identification, and risk assessment procedures.

You will enhance and maximise your skills through both simulation and clinical placement, putting everything you learn into practice in the real working environment.  This course is government accredited and  has national recognition and is accredited by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).

 6 months (2 days/week) 

This course is designed for those who care for clients under the supervision of health professional staff in a hospital. You can choose to specialise in one of two streams.

The Patient Services Assistant (PSA) stream will teach you how to comply with infection control policies and procedures in health work, understand basic medical terminology, maintain a high standard of client service and provide support in areas such as patient/client transport, meal service and environmental services. Applicants may choose to enrol in additional units recommended for assisting in nursing work in acute care.

Applicants my choose to enrol in an additional elective which would allow a direct pathway into the Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistant.

The Operating Theatre Technician stream will help you meet the requirements of specific work functions in operating theatre support. You may choose to only complete a skill set from this course to upgrade from a previous qualification. This course is government accredited and has national recognition.

Employment opportunitiesStream 1 may provide you with employment opportunities as a/an; support worker, orderly, patient service attendant, wards assistant and patient support or care assistant in a hospital.

Stream 2 may provide you with employment opportunities as a/an: operating theatre technician, operating theatre support person, support worker, orderly, patient service attendant and wards assistant.

You will also gain valuable skills in working with culturally diverse clients and co-workers,  learn infection control policies and procedures, and learn how to organise your work priorities.

This course will give you the essential skills to administer remedial, sports and therapeutic massages. Learn to analyse health information, maintain effective work environments, and manage a massage practice. You will plan and provide remedial massage treatments for clients with chronic diseases, clients within a corporate environment and to athletes.

On course completion, you will be eligible for an Australian Association of Massage Therapists membership and be able to apply for a private health fund and WorkCover provider number. This course is government accredited and has national recognition and is accredited by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).

Employment opportunitiesAfter successful completion of the first year (Certificate IV) your employment opportunities may include roles working under supervision in a group practice with other health professionals, providing relaxation and therapeutic massage.

On completion of this diploma you may gain employment as a self-employed remedial, sports and therapeutic massage therapist. You may also discover business opportunities in a group practice with other health professionals, in health clubs, hospitals, resorts, sporting clubs or day spas.

Employment opportunitiesThis qualification will prepare you for work in a wide range of roles in the sports and events industry. You may find work in sports management, sports administration, sports coaching, officiating, event management or sport facility management. After completing the course you will have a range of work experience; which in turn will improve your confidence to manage events. Graduates will be work ready and have a greater chance of gaining employment or continuing onto further study.

This can be studied as a dual qualification with the Diploma of Sport and Recreation Management.

If you are looking for a pathway to a university degree in Event Management or Sport Management or alternatively wanting to work in the events industry or at a sports facility, the Diploma of Sport and Recreation Management and Diploma of Events is the course for you.

You can become part of this rewarding industry when you attend our practical hands-on courses delivered by industry professionals. You will be involved in at least one major event and run your own event by the end of this course.

You will learn about client services, marketing, communications, occupational health and safety, event management and facility management. You will also have the opportunity to learn from, and speak to, current industry professionals working with our industry partners. This course is government accredited and has national recognition.

Employment opportunitiesThis qualification will prepare you for work in a wide range of roles in the sports and events industry. You may find work in sports management, sports administration, sports coaching, officiating, event management or sport facility management. After completing the course you will have a range of work experience; which in turn will improve your confidence to manage events. Graduates will be work ready and have a greater chance of gaining employment or continuing onto further study. 

Further study optionsUpon successful completion you will be eligible to apply for degree courses in a number of areas including; sports management, sports administration, outdoor recreation, teaching and event management and will be able to receive credits up to  12 months for studies undertaken with us.

Entry requirementsYou must have completed Year 12 (VCE)  or equivalent or be mature age.

SUSANNAH BALL

DIPLOMA OF SPORT RECREATION MANAGEMENT AND EVENTS

After completing the Diploma of Sport Recreation and Event Management, which included two internships, Susannah was offered a position at Mummu Sport as an assistant project manager for international sporting events.

“Working for Mummu Sport allows me to work on many different event committees for international sporting events such as the Netball World Cup 2015 and the Cycling World Championships. I am currently working with the events committee for the Netball World Cup 2015,” said Susannah.

“After volunteering at my first event in February 2014 (Neon Run) I was offered paid positions and internships for all subsequent event work including The Colour Run, Tough Mudder and the Melbourne International Flower Show.”

Susannah’s nominator, John Gillard, Senior Educator, Business Programs, said of Susannah:

“Throughout the course Susannah received a high level of respect from other students … (she) is a role model for other students in terms of her organisation, work output and personal behaviour.”

Susannah has received numerous accolades including:

This is the ideal course to kickstart a career in the sport and fitness industry. 

The sport and fitness industry is growing rapidly and needs more qualified people. You can become part of this rewarding industry when you attend our practical hands-on courses delivered by industry professionals. The fitness component will be delivered in our on campus gym - Whitehorse Fitness.

Your studies will include client services, marketing, communications, occupational health and safety, event management, facility management, health and fitness. Students will also have the opportunity to learn from and work with current industry professionals.

This course is delivered with the Certificate III in Fitness so that students can gain important underpinning knowledge in Anatomy and Physiology which they will require in further studies in this area or can use practically in the fitness industry. This course is government accredited and has national recognition and is accredited by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) and the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).

Employment opportunitiesUpon successful completion you will be awarded a Diploma in Sport Development and a Certificate III in Fitness.

This qualification will prepare you to work in a wide range of roles in the sport and fitness industry. You may find work in; sports management, sports administration, fitness, sports coaching, officiating or event management. Following further study you may enter a career in sport/exercise science, health and nutrition or teaching physical education.

Looking for a career in fitness? Want to be your own boss and choose your own work hours or do you want to get paid to have fun on the job? The fitness industry is growing rapidly and needs more qualified personal trainers.

Our fitness courses are delivered both in the classroom and the gym, with the practical sessions now being held at the ANZ Center – YMCA Docklands on Collins. This world class gym facility provides our students with the highest level of training and boasts an impressive 800 square metres of floor space to cater for all practical lessons. 

Students choosing to study at Box Hill will have practical sessions at our own Whitehorse Fitness. The course also has a practical placement component that complements the group delivery format. Diligent students that perform well during practical placement are often offered ongoing employment upon completion of this program. This course is government accredited and has national recognition 

Employment opportunitiesUpon successful completion you will be awarded a Certificate III in Fitness and the Certificate IV in Fitness. This dual qualification will prepare you specifically to work as a personal trainer in the fitness industry. Upon successful completion of the course you will be eligible for registration  with key industry bodies including Physical Activity Australia and Fitness Australia.

Further study optionsUpon successful completion of this course you may apply to complete further studies in our Diploma of Sport Development or apply for a range of degree courses in the areas of sport science or human movement.

CERTIFICATE III IN SPORT AND RECREATION

This course is designed as an introduction to the areas of sport, recreation and fitness for delivery as part of a VCAL or VET in Schools Program.

You will learn how to plan and conduct sport and recreation sessions, conduct basic warm-up and cool-down programs, maintain sport, fitness and recreation facilities, and provide customer service. This course is government accredited and has national recognition.

Employment opportunitiesAs this course is designed as a pathway to further study, employment opportunities following further study are likely to be in a number of areas across the sport, recreation and fitness sectors and will depend upon specialisations or choices of electives in future courses of study.

Future opportunities for employment are likely to be in the areas of fitness, sport science, sport development, sport management, sport facility management or event management.

Further study optionsStudents may complete further studies in a number of areas in Sport, Recreation and Fitness. At Box Hill Institute we can offer further study in the Certificate III and IV in Fitness or Diploma of Sport Development or Diploma of Sport and Recreation Management. You may also wish to consider a number of degree level courses in similar areas of study. 

Entry requirementsSatisfactory completion of Year 10. 

TimetableAs part of a VCAL Program it is designed to be delivered in one year. As part of the VET in Schools (VETiS) program it is designed to be delivered over two years of study, usually through Years 11 and 12. This program is currently offered on Wednesday afternoons.
