Alcohol will prevent nutrients from feedingyour immune system

Three or more drinks a night is a significantly

different story. If an individual drinks enoughalcohol to get impaired or drunk, it is also

enough to cause weaknesses in the immune

system. When you drink enough to get drunk, you are also producing an nutrition

    deficiency.

    THE URINARY SYSTEM

The urinary system is consisting of organs, tubes, muscles and nerves that create store

and carry urine. It includes the kidneys,

bladder, sphincter muscles and urethra. Thekidneys filter water and waste from the blood,

which forms urine. From the kidneys, urine

moves through tiny tubes called ureters to the

bladder, where it is eliminated from the body.

The urine exits through the urethra.

    Jean

  • 7/29/2019 Health (Alcohol)

    16/45

A healthy urinary system can hold up to twocups of urine comfortably for two to five

    hours.

Drinking alcohol (and caffeine) cause morefrequent urination, however, because they act

    as diuretics.

    THE EFFECTS

Changes in the structure and function of thekidneys

Impairment in their ability to regulate the

volume and composition of fluid Failure of bladder nerves; keeping them from

signalling to the brain when the bladder is full

    URINARY SYSTEM DISEASES

    CAUSED BY ALCOHOL

    Alcoholic liver disease

Long term and excessive consumption ofalcohol can cause liver disease Alcoholic liverdisease may cause death.

    Nephritis

Alcohol causes inflammation of the kidneys,

commonly known as nephritis. Chronicnephritis can lead to kidney failure, whichcauses an excess build-up of fluid in the bodyand ultimately death.

    Jean

  • 7/29/2019 Health (Alcohol)

    19/45

Indirect Kidney DiseaseAlcohol also causes kidney failure indirectly, by

contributing to liver disease. Liver disease will

    ultimately cause kidney failure.

    Cystitis

Inflammation of the bladder is also common. This

is known as cystitis. Cystitis is also known as a

bladder infection, though there may not bebacteria present.

    Jean

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Both chronic and acute cystitis can lead to

    urinary tract inflammation or infection.

    THE SOLUTIONS

Drink most of your fluids during the day and limitdrinking after dinner to reduce nighttimeurination problems.

Reduce alcohol consumption by setting a

drinking goal, such as no more than twoalcoholic drinks a day, drinking slowly with atleast an hour break between drinks, and eatingwhile drinking to slow the alcohol absorption inyour bloodstream.

If you suspect you may have a drinking problem, talk to your doctor about enrolling in an alcoholtreatment program.

    THE SKELETAL SYSTEM

The skeletal system consists of hundreds ofbones, ranging in size from the very large leg

bones to the tiny bones deep inside the ears.

Bone health is as vital as the health of theheart or any other organ. Nutritional

deficiencies can weaken a skeletal system,

resulting in pain, decreased mobility and

    quality of life.

    Jean

  • 7/29/2019 Health (Alcohol)

    25/45

Deficiencies may be caused by poor foodchoices, lack of food, or certain drugs, and

    excessive consumption of alcohol.

    Jean

  • 7/29/2019 Health (Alcohol)

    26/45

Alcohol interferes with many body functionsand lowers formation of bone cells. Bones

need new cell production and good blood

circulation to remain healthy. When the bonesdo not get this nutrition and support they

become fragile and may develop skeletal

    diseases.

    Reproductive System

Females may have delay on their first day ofmenstrual cycle, irregular periods, and

impaired breast development, and they may

develop risk in having breast cancer in laterages.

Males may experience decrease in size of

testes and development of muscle mass.

On Pregnant women, fetal alcohol syndrome

Alcoholism is a broad term for problemswith alcohol, and is generally used to meancompulsive and uncontrolled consumptionof alcoholic beverages, usually to the

detriment of the drinker's health, personalrelationships, and social standing. It ismedically considered a disease, specificallyan addictive illness, and in psychiatry severalother terms are used, specifically "alcoholabuse" and "alcohol dependence"
