Hon President – Rodger Weddell has been involved with Headway Swansea since 1986 when he took up post as head of the Neuropsychology department at Morriston Hospital. He has facilitated a Headway support group held at the activity centre for 16 years:

‘’Everyone participating is an expert – those with injuries have the authority of their unique experiences. We talk about challenges we face. Once we review each challenge we think about ways forward. We also review our strengths

and successes – quite often!’’

Activity Centre Volunteer– Erwin Van Hooijdonk became proudly involved with Headway Swansea in 2011. Erwin has been established as a Neurological Physiotherapist in Swansea since 1997, now practising privately, he provides free support for members of Swansea Headway at the activity centre.

We would like to thank our dedicated volunteers, both old and new, for all their hard work, enthusiasm and commitment to making Headway Swansea a

success!

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for Headway Swansea please contact us for further information.

Swansea Headway meets several times through the month:

Activity Centre - held at Llewelyn Community Hall, Penllergaer, Swansea. Our activity centre runs twice a month and offers the chance to socialise with others in similar circumstances, enjoy board games, play pool, have tea/coffee and a chat. There is the chance to join in with some art and craft activities at the centre. You can also get advice and support from our volunteers. If you want to find out more please contact us (contact details are on the back page) or drop by and see us on one of our activity centre afternoons.

Active Group – held at various locations dependant on activity. The Active Group offers opportunities to enjoy a variety of group activities, recent activities have included Archery, Falconry, Tenpin Bowling, and walks around Swansea Marina and Singleton Park (Photos on pages 6 & 7). We have many more fun activities organised and welcome ideas from new members!

Social Evening Meeting- held at the New Lodge Social Club, Gorseinon, Swansea. These meetings are an opportunity to meet other people with similar experiences in a more relaxed social setting and have a chat. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in.

Committee Meetings - held at the Postgraduate Centre, Morriston

Power Kites

We have been introduced to land based foil kites and taught aspects of setting up, launching, basic safety and flying

precautions. Everyone had a go at flying the kites and we all managed to keep our feet on the group despite the wind

being very strong!

We enjoyed a guided tour of a local chocolate factory, where we found out where cocoa is grown and how it is made into chocolate. We are

now expert in tasting chocolate!

We spent a relaxing afternoon in the sunshine fishing. Although we didn’t catch any big fish, we did manage to catch a human
