The school was busy with the Eid lunch for families and I thought it would be good to write to you all after the lunch had taken place. What a busy and enjoyable two weeks we have had since I last wrote to you all. October is Black History Month where the children learn about and celebrate black women and men who have helped shape the world we live in. On Wednesday last week the company Bigfoot Drama came and gave a performance called ‘Carnival of Heroes’ to launch Black History Month at Ben Jonson. The performance was enjoyed by everyone. The doors of the school opened at 11.30am on Friday 2 October and so many of you all came to join your children for lunch in celebration of Eid-Al-Adha. In the two-hour lunch period over 600 children and 130 family members ate together. It was quite a spectacular event and I was touched to see how much pleasure was had by the simple act of eating together. My thanks go to all those families who were able to attend; my only wish is that we had a bigger kitchen so we could cook enough food so that every family could attend. We received so many positive comments saying how enjoyable the lunch was and how good the food was. I wanted also to say thank you to Lamisi and her staff in the kitchen for the wonderful food and for the staff who gave up their lunch time to help in the dining room. Today in assembly we celebrated the achievements of Ayuub and Ashraful in Aegean Class. Ayesha, their class teacher, commended them both for their hard work, commitment, great work and their love for learning. In the assembly we were inspired by the words of Nadiya Hussain as we watched her being announced as the winner of the 2015 Great British Bake Off. When she received her award she said, “I’m never going to put boundaries on myself again. I’m never going to say I can’t do it. I’m never going to say maybe. I’m never going to say I don’t think I can. I CAN and I WILL.” These words are great words for all of us to hold on to and say. On Wednesday there was a coffee morning for parents with children who have additional needs and have either a statement of educational needs or an Education Health and Care Plan. It was a great opportunity for me and Ray Hall (our Chair of Governors) to meet the
