Purpose of moderation

“…(to) confirm whether a school’s key stage 1 teacher assessment is consistent with national standards, and if not, how the school should change it”

“Moderation is a sampling process and is not a method for checking each child’s attainment…the moderation visit should focus on sampling each level awarded to ensure teacher judgements are accurate”

KS1 and KS2 Moderation 2014Key messages•Emphasis of a moderation visit is on the professional discussion between the Year 2/6 teacher and the LA external moderator.•Schools should be able to justify their teacher assessment judgements from the children's work available. In confirming judgements, teachers and LA moderators must refer to the National Curriculum level descriptors.•No need to create portifolios•No national sub-levels for level 1 or level 3 (KS1 only)•Schools need to finalise teacher assessments and submit their results to Ealing LA by 20th June 2014 (KS1 only)
