  • Bronte School Headmasters Newsletter 52

    13 November 2015

Remembrance Armistice Day was marked by Bronte in a most fitting way, as our Year 6 class led us through a series of readings and anthems. It was excellent that many parents joined us to hear the thoughtful and reflective pieces, some contemporary accounts, many written by the children themselves. It was clear that all Year 6 had made a great effort really to put themselves, as far as that is possible, in the situation of those who have suffered in war and to build up empathy and understanding both in themselves and for their young audience.

Netball/ Multi Skills Tournaments All children in Years 4, 5 and 6 took part in the Inter house Netball Competition, which took place just before half term. Year 6 Nelson (6 4)

    Year 5 Hood (4 2)

Year 4 Hood (6 - 3) Some excellent netball was played, and thank you to Mrs Rezki for organising the new-format competition. In Year 3 there was a multi skills tournament, so closely fought that the final tied score was entirely justified.

School Council Cake Sale Taking forward their charitable outreach, the school council put on an impressive cake sale day, and thanks to all who contributed the cakes. Over 200 was raised, which will be used to make up hampers which will then be going to the local hospice, a local old people's home and one to the salvation army. So the generously-donated cakes are thus converted to help for needy people. Very well done to the school council. Basketball Tournament A total of 12 teams took park in the ISA South London Tournament. Our Year 6 Basketball Team (David Obi, Jay Sandhu, Rio Thind, Sasha Barnes-Crowhurst, Hannah Kazim, William Nunn, Tom Ansell, Jeevan Bains and Roan Chima) represented Bronte. We played five matches, winning two, and were narrowly defeated in 3 matches, including our game with the eventual winners. The team all played really well and were a credit to the School. A special mention to David Obi for some well-targeted shooting.

Additional Parents Council Meeting: 26 November 2015 Some very useful topics were raised at the last meeting (8 October 2015) and to feed back on these and to give further opportunity for discussion, an additional meeting has been arranged for Thursday, 26 November. Please email representatives with any points, or use the form which will go out in book bags.
