We are looking forward to a fantastic evening. The George will be open, Paul Mackenzie will be sharing Warwick Estate wines and Clifton Cooks will be on sale. We unfortunately do not have credit facilities, so please bring cash. Clifton Cooks will be available from any PA member or you can place your orders through Mary Chettle or Jo Smart, pay via EFT and organise collection either from school or from one of the PA members. Last, but definitely not least, on behalf of the PA, I would like to extend our deepest thanks to Jo Smart and Darryl Wood who have run with this project and although I haven't yet seen the final product, I believe it is an absolute best seller! Our aspiring farmers had waited a long time for this moment. Soon the baskets were filled with fresh, ready-to-eat (and some not-so-ready-to-eat) vegetables. Early Wednesday morning as is custom with Farmers Markets, the children began to set up. The day started with a lovely song about vegetables and then what followed was a sweet, little play called the War of the Vegetables. Next, it was time to declare the market officially open. So much has been learnt upon the way, the whole concept of mass and measurement has been covered, together with how to work with money. Maths learning has taken place in an engaging and practical way. Children have learnt valuable lessons such as the importance of thorough preparation, patience, and the importance of teamwork. They have also experienced first-hand the threats that farmers face. Yes, birds might just eat your favourite strawberry! Duikers just might find your wheat an ideal place to sleep and eat. The final chapter of this venture was counting up all the money made. And ouch! It was quite hard to deduct expenses and pay back what had been borrowed, but despite it all they all made a wonderful profit. The children have bonded with their land and will continue to nurture and preserve it in the future. Many thanks to the parents for all their support!”
