MONTH, DAY YEAR

In the past few weeks, I have been asked to sit in on several interviews for open positions here at Parkway Place. We ask the questions and the potential employee answers or does not answer the questions. We make our decision based on the answers to the questions. However, the answers are not always the key element. Sometimes we look at the heart of the person to see what drives them. Is there a passion? Is there a calling?

What if we had to interview for the position of Christian? There is always an interview with the people that Jesus encounters. The rich young ruler asked the questions but did not like the answer and went away sad. Zacchaeus asked the questions, and he went away joyfully. What made the difference? Demas in 2 Timothy was accepted into the community of faith only to follow a different calling, just as singer Jackson Browne writes in his song about The Pretender - ‘who started out so young and strong only to surrender.’ The interview with the Savior is not even a question; it is a statement - “Come. Follow me.” Many hearts have been changed by that one invitation. It is more than answering a question correctly. It is more than following with your will. It means to hear the call and to follow with passion, with your whole heart. The following is accomplished by one word, Emmanuel - God with us. “Come follow me, and I will abide with you.” What a great invitation, and the correct response to this interview statement is more than words. It is action. “And immediately they left their nets and followed Him.” - Matthew 4.20. For 2021, will it be said that the residents and associates of Parkway Place ‘left their nets’ to follow Him?

Wellness Tip Preventing Falls in your Environment

Footwear • Insure proper traction, shoe fit and support

Home hazards

• Throw rugs – remove or anchor these trip and slip hazards

• Lighting – use adequate lighting, as dim light is a fall hazard

• Clutter – Clear objects from walkways • Extension cords – check placement and

secure • Bathroom assistive devices – recommend

sturdy, properly installed grab bars/handrails

Linda Fitzhugh Director of Resident Engagement

Dear residents, families, and associates,

I hope you all had a Merry Quarantine Christmas and a Happy New Year. And, ‘that 2020’ is gone and here we are in a New Year – 2021. Though the vaccines are out and available to people, COVID-19 is adamant and likely to stay active in this world until God Himself has mercy upon us. With the administration of vaccinations, we may see a relief soon. We also had a very short annual associates appreciation event in December where the associates (staff) were appreciated through your generous donations. As discussed with the Resident Council, associates got Mastercard or Visa gift cards as well as 30 different raffle prizes. We also plan to have another appreciation event in April, and in August as well, before the holiday party in 2021. Thanks to the great hearts that stopped by to give a donation towards our employees’ fund. Thanks for your continued support by wearing masks, maintaining social distance and following reasonable restrictions during this time. There is not a single day that passes without hearing a “Thank You” from a resident or a family member to show their love, support and prayers to our team. We carry our goal and remember each

time to Inspire Happiness. God bless you all. Looking forward to a blessed 2021 and to serving our great seniors at Parkway Place.

Nutrition Tip

SMART Goals

January tends to be the month that people are most excited and willing to make changes to their everyday lifestyle. This year, try focusing on selecting habits that you can stick to in the long run. Make your goals SMART – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time- bound. Instead of saying “No sweets this year!”, try making your goal “I will limit my sweets to 3 servings per week for the full month of January”. Another example would be “I will eat 3 servings of vegetables and 2 servings of fruits every day for the full month of January.” It can also be fun to create a “nutrition goal of the month” and make one goal you can focus on for that month. Remember – it takes 30 DAYS to form a new habit! Let’s make 2021 our most nutritious year yet!

Open office hours – every Wednesday from 12:30pm-2:30pm.

Feel free to come by my office with any questions you may have

on nutrition!
