Cooperative EducationThis is what you gain:• Earn 2 to 4 credits while working in a

community business relevant to your career interests

• Work 3 to 6 hours per day with real professionals who are currently working in your field of interest

• Get on-the-job training for professional or high skills trades careers

• Start your career earlier…prior to graduating from high school (i.e. apprenticeship trades)

of interest to you• Allows you to gain valuable hands-on

references to assist with future employment

• Could potentially end up with part-time or full-time employment

Dual Credits ProgramsDual Credit Courses…• are for Grade 11 & 12 students• allow students while they are still in high

school, to take college or apprenticeship courses which count towards both the high school diploma (OSSD) and a postsecondary certificate, diploma, or degree, or apprenticeship certification.

• Students usually earn one or more (up to four) optional credits through college-delivered courses.

Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program

• Apprenticeship is hands-on training for people who enjoy "learning by doing”

• 90 per cent of apprenticeship training occurs at the workplace with 10% in a classroom setting at a local community college/approved training facility

• Everyone benefits from apprenticeship training. Employers gain increasingly skilled workers who help keep their business competitive. Apprentices receive training while they earn a wage

• Apprenticeships are approximately 3 to 5 years in length, and vary from trade to trade

Accelerated OYAPWhat is Accelerated OYAP?

• A unique program in which students in grade 11 or 12 participate in both a co-op program working in one of seven apprenticeship trade areas and attend community college to complete Level 1 training requirements

• Allows participants to accumulate workplace hours that count towards both secondary school co-op credits and the requirements of an apprenticeship program

College Pre-Apprenticeship Programs

Pre-Apprenticeship Training Programs

• Helps potential apprentices develop their job skills and trade readiness to be prepared to find work as apprentices

• Programs are up to 52 weeks in length and may include the Level 1 apprenticeship in-school training or relevant apprenticeship/safety training, and an 8 to 12 week work placement

• Programs may also include employment preparation and academic upgrading
