Indicators of Success
“Head Start is an excellent re-source for Hastings and the entire
south-central region of Ne-braska. They have had an excep-tional economic impact on this
area, not only in jobs at Head Start, but in training and services for individuals seeking employ-
ment and looking at starting a business. As with any business or organization you need to
have strong management and staff. They exhibit both at the Hastings location. We are so for-
tunate to have a strong partner, such as Head Start, in our com-munity.”
-Tom Hastings President Hastings Area Chamber
of Commerce

NEBRASKA CENTER OF
EXCELLENCE
On The Road To School Readiness The program has established school readiness goals that are aligned with the Child Development & Early Learning Framework, a research based curriculum (Opening the World of Learning) and as-sessment (Child Observation Record), the Nebraska Early Learning Standards and the local school requirements and expectations. On-going child assessment by staff and parents is used to individualize for children and is analyzed on the classroom and program levels. It is also monitored in part by the annual self-assessment and is used in planning and program improvement.
Transition Planning
Assisting families with transitioning from EHS to HS and from HS to Kindergarten is an important part of the program. Head Start works with each family and area schools in the transition process.
