PLANES. ANTI-POLLUTION SURVEILLANCE

Aerial Service

19

Everyday the world is navigated by thousands of vessels

Some of the most important maritime routes surrounds Spain.

Many vessels pollutes during its navigation, discharging illegal products from the engines rooms or tanks.

In spanish is called “sentinazo”

The evidences have to demonstrate:

1) The discharge

2) The nature of the spill

So, we need:

1) Performances to DETECT

2) Performance to CLASSIFY

SLAR

PLANES. SUPPORT FOR LONG DISTANCE SAR OPERATIONS

Aerial Service

Long Distance SAR Operations

Difficulties:

Limited range of helicopters

Safety and confidence

Limited range of the helicopter

The range of the SAR helicopters is limited, especially due to:

SAR EQUIPMENT WEIGHT

(aprox. 25% heavierv Vs Basic)

• Search Radar

• Search Light

• Hoists

• External Speakers

• Adicional Avionics

• Adicional Communications

SAR MATERIAL ON BOARD

(Aprox. 150 kg)

• Life Raft

• Slinge

• Guide Lines

• Markers

• Stretchers

FUEL RESERVES

(no alternative airports)

• Contingency

• Emergency

FUEL CONSUMPTION IN THE SCENE

• Hover Consuption

We might improve the range if …

We reduce the ferry time and in scene time

We burn part of the reserves of Fuel

We reduce the material on board

Safety and Confidence

No information…

Meteo in zone,

Sea State,

Scene state,

Nobody else is there…

and sometimes it is huge dark.

No communications…

at 150 ft over the sea and 180 nm from coast, the communication between MRCC and Helo are not possible sometimes.

We might improve the safety and confidence if …

We plan the operation using more accurate information

We have somebody else supporting and monitoring us

We keep in touch permanently with the MRCC

The use of planes supporting long distance SAR operations allows:

1. INCREASING the RANGE of the Helicopter because they:

• LOCATE the target,

• GUIDE the helicopter,

• GIVE THE INSTRUCTION and PREPARE the scene,

• PROVIDE ACCURATE INFORMATION which can be used to plan more EFFICIENTLY the operation.

2. INCREASING the level of SAFETY and CONFIDENCE because they:

• SUPERVISE the operation,

• ACCOMPANY the helicopter in zone,

• PROVIDE ACCURATE INFORMATION which can be used to plan more SAFETY the operation.

• Act as a RELAY to improve communications.
