On Friday 13 June The Causeway School took a strong

team of athletes to the South Sussex Coast Partnership

Town Sports event at Eastbourne Sports Park. Students

have been studying athletics over the last term and

recording times and distances in lessons. Miss Holden and

Mr Finney used these statistics to select the strongest

squad to represent the school at this prestigious annual

event.

All of the students were a credit to the school with excellent team spirit, encouraging each other

throughout the day and making sure everyone gave their best performance to score maximum points for

the team. Outstanding performances on the day came from Emerson Guimeras in the boys 800m and

Faith Manjoro winning the girls 200 metre sprint. Lewis Spender showed amazing determination. Solid

mid table finishes saw the school finish 6 out of 10 schools. Well done to all those who took part and

HEAD BOY AND HEAD GIRL ELECTIONS

After successful applications and recommendations involving most of the staff , seven Year 10 students have this week been the nominated candidates for election to the role of Head Boy and Head Girl. They have been presented to the whole school through house assemblies and have all excelled and given persuasive speeches with strong electioneering points. Students have promised improvements in communication between staff and students, offered more activities around the school and boosting the

student voice to enhance the overall school experience.

Today, Friday 20 June, the whole school will be electing their Head Boy and Head Girl and next week we will be announcing the successful candidates. The candidates are Daniella Castro, Emily Graham, Tim La Roche, Kiera Rae, Liam Rakow, Lewis Spender, and Hannah Turner.

YOU CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE

This term we have had excellent assemblies from Mr Casebourne and Mrs Alexander on the topic of bullying. Bullying is a serious issue in schools across the country. There is something you can do to stop this occurring. If you come across anyone in school alone or feel someone is being bullied, don’t just ignore them. Just by asking them if they are OK can make a big difference. Bullying can take many shapes or forms, whether it be face to face or online. It is unnecessary and as a

school we can tackle it. You may not even realise it, but the person sitting next to you may be suffering in silence, so be kind, it doesn’t cost anything.

Year 10 Geography students have been c o m p l e t i n g t h e i r c o n t r o l l e d assessment, investigating coastal management along the East Sussex coastline. The students visited local sites and conducted a series of field work tasks to determine whether erosion was a problem and whether the land use at each site was worthy of protection.

Over the next 2 weeks there will be an inter-house competition for all year groups during lunch times. For more information see Mr West. Mr West, Development Mentor for Keller House

A reminder that on Friday 27 June students can wear a 'crazy' tie to school, for which they will need to donate 50p. This will be helping to raise funds for Chivonne, Callum and Shannon to be able to travel to Kenya to help out with community projects.

Mrs Clay, Teacher of PE

It is the summer term, and that means all year groups are out on the field, putting ball to bat and playing some fantastic games of rounders!

The Year 7 team had an outstanding victory, beating Willingdon School 6-4, with rounders from Jaymie Morris, Holly Leister and Carla Sears. There was some admirable fielding from Holly Leister and Cerys James, and Carla Sears and Rosie Thompson made an intimidating pair as back stop and bowler! Well done to all those involved, a promising start as we head into the school tournaments next week - best of luck!

The Year 8 team, now with new additions Courtney Owen and Erin Midgely are storming away. They played Willingdon and Cavendish school last week. Great fielding from Charlee Webb, Chloe Paris, Poppy Murphy, Poppy McMillan and bowling from Jade Meredith-Sullivan. Excellent batting from Molly Stammers, Erin and Courtney. Good luck to all year groups in the tournament next week held at Bishop Bell.

ALL YEAR GROUP ROUNDERS

On 5 June, 12 Year 7's took part in the Super 6 Athletics tournament held at Lewes Priory. Each student competed in one track, one field and a relay event. All the students performed very well and special mentions go out to Alfie Webb who placed in the 100m, Rosie Thompson who came 2nd in the Shot Put, Jordan Ward who placed despite injury and Rose-Ella Peapell who won the 100m. The other athletes that took part were Joseph Francis, Maisie Sacco, Jake Bendle, Paul Edge, Harrison Coleman, Keavy Moore Laura Barrass and Shannon Whelan. We finished 6th out of 8 schools.

THE DofE AWARD: PRACTICE EXPEDITION Twenty four Causeway students took part in their practice expedition on the South Downs this weekend. The trip was a huge success and enabled students to demonstrate their navigation, tent pitching and cooking skills as part of a team. Although some miss-navigation took place, all students made it safely to the campsite for the evening!

On day two, students rose to the challenge of completing the 22km route. Their navigation greatly improved and all of the groups arrived at the meeting point either on time or before schedule. It was a delight to see students working together in such harmony. The assessed expedition is due to take place in three weeks time. We’d like to wish all those taking part every success. Good luck!

THE FOOTBALL GALA

We are pleased to be able to officially reveal the student librarians. These students have been continuously helpful. It gives me great pleasure to be able to reward them publically for all their support and hard work in the LRC. Senior Student Librarians are Emily Graham, Tanya Sharma and Kayleigh Shaw. The future Senior Student Librarians and current student librarians are Josephine Carter, Shayla Cosham, Tanya Quaife, Sam Nutter, Bethany Baldwin, Emelia Briffitt, Karen Kingshott and Megan Roche. Thank you for all your support.

CRAZY TIE DAY

Mr Wenham, Assistant Headteacher, Head of Pankhurst House

On the evening of Tuesday 17 June, the school hosted its second Football Gala which saw over 300 people enjoying a host of matches between the school and All Star Soccer. It was an evening of outstanding football from all of the teams. It culminated in awards being handed out to our Year 6 Academy players by our sponsors “Winning Look”. The Football Academy has gone from strength to strength this year, an example of this is the outstanding pitches the school now have at our disposable for all areas of school sport. Thank you to our groundsman.
