“Father of aviation”

Alberto Santos Dumont

…he was the first man to build and fly on airships and take off on board an airplane powered by a gasoline engine.

Santos Dumont became a great personality because…

Santos Dumont was born on July 20, 1873, the city of Palmira, Minas Gerais State, Brazil.

The small town of Palmyra today is called Santos Dumont.

Dumont was a man of small stature and slender body.

He moved to Paris in 1892.

Nine years later, became a model

for the French, won several awards,

surpassed barriers and limits to

foreigners.

Built on the popular fantasy, the image

of "Superman."

Having dedicated his life to

aviation, Santos Dumont was the

first airman to be achieved, definitely,

the handling of balloons and fly a heavier-than-

air self-propelled.

Santos Dumont designed, built and flew the first dirigible balloons with a petrol engine. This credit will be guaranteed internationally by winning the Deutsch Prize in 1901.

He suffered multiple injuries. But did not lose his determination to conquer the air.

He made  his will with the flight of the 14 Bis, when he won the Archdeacon Cup.

Made a conscious choice and idealistic: not to patent their inventions.

Pasted their inventions available to anyone who would build them and use them.

In 1910, Santos Dumont ended his aviation career with the "Demoiselle".

Already removed from the air activity, saw the First World War and decided to return to Brazil in 1915, where he spent the last years of his life.

After realizing he had created a gun, went into depression and committed suicide.
