2020 is at the end, it was hectic true, there was a lot of negativity that’s true as well, but we held on, believed and endured the COVID storm. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today is one of the top countries around the world who managed to properly mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

I titled this editorial “Twenty Twenty What?” because to a certain extent we still don’t see much light at the end of the tunnel - that’s not being negative - it’s only an honest observation, and until there is a viable vaccination out there, that is robust and trustable, we will still be at the ready keeping all our preventive measures in play.

I hope you enjoy reading this edition of the Journal, as we bring to you the latest highlights from the last three months of 2020, starting with H.E. Mr. Nehme Tohme’s visit to Riyadh Metro Project and a very two special exposures with our Saudi colleagues who succeeded in their jobs and made a difference, as well as to our usual project updates.

Wishing you on this Holiday Season a Merry Christmas and a Happy New 2021.

Sincerely,

John A El KhouryMedia Department Manager

Guest of the Journal: Abdulmohsen AlsaifBACS Finance Manager Interviewed by John A El Khoury, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

▶ John EL Khoury: First let me thank you for giving us this opportunity to interview your good self, please narrate for the Journal readers who is Abdulmohsen starting from your early childhood days in Saudi Arabia to where you are today.

Abdulmohsen Alsaif: You are most welcome; it is a pleasure to be interviewed for the Almabani Journal. I would like to start with my family’s background as it had a major influence on my professional development. My family lived abroad and moved to numerous countries in Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the US, which exposed me to various cultures that allowed me to absorb new information and gave me new perspectives. The majority of my early education took place in Riyadh National School, where I was engrossed in Saudi customs and traditions. After graduating from high school, I moved to London to continue my education in Cass Business School, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in management. During my time in London, I grew as a professional by developing my strong work ethic and an interest in finance. Today, I find myself continuing my education, as I have continuously added to my knowledge in accounting and finance. In fact, I have renewed my interest in project management by taking an online course with Cornell University. I certainly believe that continuing your education and being up to date, will open more doors and lead you to new opportunities.

▶ John EL Khoury: Given the fact that you started working within the perimeters of a Mega project directly after graduation, tell us about that experience, describing the ups and downs along this Journey.

Abdulmohsen Alsaif: It has been a remarkable experience! The nature and size of the project has allowed me to work and network with some brilliant people and getting to see some amazing engineering feats. The dynamic environment of the project allowed me to connect with various departments and work on tasks that are very unique to Riyadh Metro Project. Sometimes, work can be overwhelming as the environment is fast paced and the standards required by Almabani are extremely high. As the project nears its completion, our achievements have started to become more recognizable. Overall, it has definitely been a great experience and worth the effort.

▶ John EL Khoury: What was the biggest challenge you faced during your tenure at BACS, and how did you overcome that challenge?

Abdulmohsen Alsaif: As mentioned previously, the size of the project makes for an extremely challenging environment. Especially, when I first joined the project as I was expected to hit the ground

Page 15: H.E. Mr. Nehme Tohmé Visits RMP - almabani.com · ALMABANI'S CEO MR. JOSEPH DAHER GREETING THE DIRECTOR GENERAL MR. IBRAHIM AL-OMAR The Almabani Journal . Issue No. 23 . September,

running. In addition, we had four companies with very different cultures and personnel working together for the first time on a mega project. Each company has its own methods and processes for getting work done. Not to mention different software related to accounting and procurement. I overcame these challenges by following the advice and guidance of my more experienced colleagues.

▶ John EL Khoury: Today we are starting to move into the post-COVID world, as the markets try to adjust how do you see the construction market move forward from the perspective of a young Saudi professional?

Abdulmohsen Alsaif: Currently, we are going through difficult and uncertain times as a result of COVID. However, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel. The Saudi government recently announced several new projects as part of its vision for 2030, such as Diriyah Gate’s project, Qiddiyah and the Red Sea Development. Hopefully, these projects will kick start the construction market. There is a young generation of Saudi’s that are highly educated and capable of working in numerous fields. I can see more young Saudis entering the construction industry as projects begin to return, and playing a key role in completing these projects.

▶ John EL Khoury: Vision 2030 is ten years ahead, where do you see the Kingdom then? Where do you see yourself? And what is the message you can give to the young Saudi talents out there?

Abdulmohsen Alsaif: His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman has laid out an ambitious plan for the country to develop numerous sectors within Saudi Arabia to reduce the country’s dependence on oil. Therefore, there are various projects created to achieve Vision 2030. I can see all of these projects coming to life and develop Saudi Arabia into a business, transportation and tourist hubs, where it attracts foreign investments. Almabani has always supported and encouraged me to continue my education, by constantly improving and gaining new skills. I would like to put these skills to use, and help Almabani reach its maximum potential and lead others to reach their career goals. I encourage young Saudis to strive to constantly improve, work hard and find passion in their work.

▶ John EL Khoury: Last, I would like to leave the final words for you, is there anything you would like to add?

Abdulmohsen Alsaif: I am about to complete my seventh year at Almabani and the company has become a family to me. I have developed a strong relationship with many of my colleagues and I owe a lot of my success at Almabani to them. They have constantly pushed and encouraged me to improve and have always been there when I needed their support. The past few years have been tough, and tough times don’t last, but tough people do.

Lieutenant Fahad AlshunaifiA Success Story Interviewed by John A El Khoury, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

▶ John EL Khoury: Thank you for giving us this opportunity, let’s talk about Lieutenant Fahad, sharing with us your story from the early childhood days, to joining the military and the transitioning to the private sector.

Lieutenant Fahad: I was born and raised in a middle-class family in Riyadh. I remember in my childhood the simplicity of life in Asir Street, that street, which was one of the most important streets in Riyadh city during the 70s, as well as the love between neighbors that we missed these days.My family encouraged me to enroll in the school and complete my education when at that time the education was not considered an essential path, I continued my studies until I graduated from the commercial high school majoring in accounting.

During childhood, I wished to be an airplane pilot and never expected to join the military sector, but the presence of a family member who works in the navy and my admiration for the military navy uniform were the reasons for joining the Saudi Royal Navy.

The army is the factory of men, and it is the reason that created in my character the passion towards my work and discipline which I consider one of the main reasons for my success in the private sector.

▶ John EL Khoury: What are the ups, downs and differences in working with the Public Sector versus working in the Private Sector?

Lieutenant Fahad: There is a big difference between working in the public and private sectors. As the private sector relies on achieving and completing the targets within the defined period, it is considered an advanced inspiring environment that calls for raising competencies and constructive competition that advances the level of performance in the market. As for the military sector, it depends on physical and mental strength, combat ability and the immediate execution of the command orders, where the goal is to defend our beloved country.

▶ John EL Khoury: Tell us about your experience in the Metro Project and what you have gained in terms of proficiency and knowledge.

Lieutenant Fahad: It was a great responsibility to be assigned to Riyadh metro project one of the biggest projects in KSA and the Middle East and the largest public transportation project in Saudi Arabia.RMP was one of the biggest challenges in my career so far, being a part of a multinational team from different backgrounds and different strategies all gathered to deliver the best outcome.I developed the ability to deal with huge and numerous tasks and deliver them in a very short period in addition to dealing calmly and efficiently with any unexpected event that pops out of nowhere.

▶ John EL Khoury: Narrate for us what was the biggest challenge you faced throughout your tenure at the project, and how you overcame that challenge?

Lieutenant Fahad: When I started my work in the private sector, the prevailing idea of all workers in the private sector was that the Saudi citizen cannot adapt to working in the private sector. With the support of my colleagues at work, I was able to prove to everyone that we as Saudi citizens are committed to hard work, discipline, being a productive member within the company and adapt easily to become an integral part of a dedicated and professional team whenever given the opportunity .

▶ John EL Khoury: Last, I would like to leave the final words for you, is there anything you would like to add?

Lieutenant Fahad: Thank you for giving me the chance to appear in the pages of our internal corporate journal, also I would benefit from the occasion to express my gratitude for the continuous support I have received from all my colleagues where we feel, and we work as one family mainly: Mr. Joe Tayah and Mr. Salim Azar.

2020 is nearly over, and with it we are reaching the mark of 700K infections per day globaly. Researches and Reports collected from the world’s biggest companies expect the business impact from the coronavirus to linger until at least the end of 2021. Nearly a third of them fear it could persist beyond then.In a third-quarter report from the Business Roundtable released earlier, the corporate trade group said that a survey of its members − which include General Motors, Apple and Johnson & Johnson, among other major companies – showed that a majority expect most business conditions to recover by the

That sizable percentage represents how uncertain the economic climate remains as the world battles a health disaster with little modern precedence. In some cases, CEOs have acted before local governments, with companies such as Apple closing stores in hot-spot areas before being mandated to do so. Our battle against COVID-19 is far from over, and the top priority remains the health and safety of our families, colleagues, clients and the community around us.
