There were 22 arrests for marijuana possession in Barrington in 2016
Marijuana Testimony
On behalf of the Police Chief’s Association, Chief Palmer of the Hopkinton Police
Department spearheaded an effort that involved documenting examples of marijuana-
related crime in every Rhode Island community. Each Rhode Island Chief of Police
contributed examples of serious criminal activity experienced in their local communities
in their efforts to address marijuana-related crime. Earlier this year, these examples
were presented to the Rhode Island state legislature in testimony given by Chief Palmer.
In February 2017, Barrington Police investigated a shooting on Kirby Street that occurred
at approximately 5:00 PM. Investigation revealed the suspect felt insulted and
disrespected over telephone text/calls about the quality of marijuana. He drove to the
victim’s house and fired three shots hitting the victim one time in the torso. The victim
initially was hesitant about providing information. The suspect was charged with assault
with intent to murder, using a firearm in a crime of violence, and carrying a firearm
without a license.
-Barrington Police Files
In February 2016, Barrington Police investigated a Home Invasion whereas multiple
suspects entered an occupied home. One suspect entered holding a shotgun. A male
victim was assaulted and suspects targeted a safe containing currency and marijuana
dabs.
-Barrington Police Files
In June 2015, Barrington Police investigated a Breaking and Entering into a house
whereas an unknown individual/s entered the house and targeted a licensed medical
marijuana grow in the basement. The suspect/s cut and stole mature marijuana plants
leaving behind just the base of the plant and stole grow equipment (environmental
controllers). A Glock 45 caliber handgun was also stolen from the residence.
