of Inner Line Permit in isles PORT BLAIR, MAY 28/--/ Andaman andNicobar Command Cycling-Cum -Trekking Expedition completed its firstphase covering a distance of 341 kmfrom Diglipur to Hutbay on Sunday. Theteam of 5 officers, 03 JCOs and 23Soldiers interacted with the localpopulation and visited schools and
colleges. The team was enthusiasticallyreceived and greeted by peoplethroughout the route and wereappreciated for their sense of adventure& their messages on nationalintegration, Swachhta Abhiyan,education to all, Physical fitness andhonesty and integrity.
The team also educated the locals on
career opportunities in the ArmedForces.
On 23 May 2018 Team's MedicalOfficer provided emergency medicalcare to a family enroute Rangat whichmet with a road accident.
On Monday, the team sailed fromHut Bay to Carnicobar commencing
their second Phase of the Expedition. Inthis phase the team will sail acrossislands of Nicobar group and carry outcycling trek, visiting schools andgovernment establishments on variousislands spanning a distance of approx220 km and trekking 45 km in GreatNicobar Island concluding theexpedition at Indira Pt on 03 May 2018.

High wind wave alertPORT BLAIR, MAY 28/--/ The INCOIS Observatory,Hyderabad has forecast high waves in the range of 3.5 - 5.4meters during 5.30 pm on 28-05-2018 to 11.30 pm of 30-05-2018 along the west coast of Andaman Islands from TenDegree Channel to Coco Channel.
Current speeds vary between 57 - 92 cm/sec. In Nicobar,high waves in the range of 3.5 - 3.6 meters are forecastedduring 5.30 pm on 28-05-2018 to 11.30 pm of 30-05-2018along the west coast of Nicobar Islands from Ten DegreeChannel to Great Channel. Current speeds vary between44 - 75 cm/sec. Due to strong Southwest monsoon currentover Andaman sea, Strong Southwesterly wind speedbetween 40 and 50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph and rough tovery rough seas very likely along and off Andaman &Nicobar coast.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture in to thesea during next 48 hours. The general public have beenadvised to take precautionary measures and contact theState Control Room, District Control Room and EmergencyOperation Centres in case of any emergency.

Power transmission faultsdue to inclement weather
PORT BLAIR, MAY 28/--/ In view of inclement weatherconditions, repeatedly transmission faults are occurringand resulting in heavy disturbances in power supply. TheElectricity staffs are working round the clock to resume thesupply after rectifying the defects. The major faultsnoticed are entangling of High Tension & Low TensionLines due to heavy winds, failures of lightening arrestors,falling of trees and branches etc. The patrolling parties aresent to the fault area, but working becomes difficult due torain and wind velocity. The consumers have been requestedto bear with the Electricity Department and extendcooperation so that power supply is restored at the earliest.The Electricity Department has requested consumers toinform to the nearest site office if they observe flash,abnormal sound in the Electric System so that the technicalteam can reach and solve the problem. The falling andsnapping of line could be dangerous, hence the citizens arerequested that on sighting of such happenings inform thenearest Site Offices, Police Stations, Fire Brigade so thatsafety measures can be taken. They are also requested notto touch or come near the snapped lines and also not toallow other people and cattle etc. to come near the snappedlines. The consumers/general public can also inform theaforesaid situation over phone to the respective JuniorEngineers/Assistant Engineers/Executive Engineers ofthe areas or Electricity Control Room Telephone No. 03192-235250, for immediate attention and quick action.

NicobarPORT BLAIR, MAY 28 /--/ A moderate intensityearthquake measuring 5.0on the Richter scale hit theNicobar region at around7.30 am on Monday. Thetremor was epicentered at8.6 degrees North Latitudeand 94.3 degrees EastLongitude at depth of about10 kms off the NicobarIslands coast. However, nodamage to properties or lifehas been reported,according to the IndianMeteorological Department.The A & N Islands werebadly hit by the 2004 Asiantsunami, which wastriggered by an earthquakeoff the Indonesian island ofSumatra that sent giantwaves crashing intocountries around the IndianOcean. The Andaman Seawitnesses frequent quakescaused by the meeting ofthe Indian plate with theBurmese microplate alongan area known as theAndaman trench.
