The Heuvelton Alumni Association is proud to announce the induction of Coach Guy Conklin into the HCS Athletic Hall of Fame. Coach Conklin, a veteran of World War II and a graduate of Cortland State came to Heuvelton as a physical education teacher. From 1950 to 1970, he coached every sport and from 1951 to 1984 he co-founded and directed the summer recreation program along with biddy basketball in the winter. He guided Heuvelton teams to over 500 victories including the championship ‘57 basketball team. Coach Conklin was also a member of the Heuvelton Fire Department, a justice of the peace and a Boy Scout troop leader. He coached at Canton ATC both soccer and basketball and taught the hunter Safety Course where he issued over 650 hunting licenses. For Guy Conklin everything was for the kids. Along with Physical Education he taught honesty, integrity, values and respect for others.

„BEST‰ Ideas Awards

The Alumni Association would like to thank Richard Todd ‘71, Chris Riordan ‘02 and the Goldenaires for supporting the “BEST Ideas Awards”. Their performance on Dec. 11th raised $225 for this program. Also, thank you to all who attended. Four years ago the Heuvelton Alumni Association developed the “BEST Ideas Awards” (Bringing Excellent Student and Teacher Ideas to HCS) as a means to target funds to help cover the cost of creative ideas or programs that teachers and/or students want to bring to HCS. Teachers and students have the opportunity to apply for these funds, and members of the HAA evaluate the applications to decide which applications should be chosen. The HAA would like to continue offering funding to help encourage creative and innovative projects in the classrooms at HCS. Please consider specifically donating whatever amount you can afford to “BEST Ideas Awards” when you send in your membership dues this year. Thank you in advance for considering this! This year we awarded $350 to Mrs. Ronica Lawrence for the purchase of Math and Movement Mats to use with Heuvelton students. Math & Movement™ is a kinesthetic, multi-sensory approach to teaching math that incorporates physical exercise, stretching, cross-body movements, yoga, and visually-pleasing floor mats designed to encourage students to practice math concepts.
