The camp was attended by anumber of local farmers alongwith Sarpanchs and Panchs ofadjoining areas. ChiefHorticulture Officer Jammu, SKirtan Singh Raina along withDLMS Sarabjeet Singh, SanjeevKumar and HOO BhalwalSandeep Sharma, DirectorRSETI (SBI) Bank and SandeepSandy participated in this campand informed the farmers about
aims and objectives of the pro-gramme.
The Chief HorticultureOfficer informed about currentschemes being implemented bythe department. He also assuredall possible support to the farm-ers.
The farmers made a strongdemand for plantation of Haradplants on large scale in the areaas this plant has got immensemedicinal commercial value.
During the camp, variousHorticulture related problemswere discussed in detail andDLSMSs answered the queriesput forth by the farmers.

JAMMU, Aug 22: Ninepeople were injured today inseparate road mishaps in thecity and its outskirts.
According to a policespokesperson, four people wereinjured this afternoon when aMahindra vehicle bearing regis-tration No JK02AU-3195 col-lided with a Xylo car bearingregistration No JK13B-8700near Nandini. The injured havebeen identified as driver ofMahindra vehicle, Raj Kumar(30) son of Shiv Ram, a resi-dent of Dansal, driver of Xylocar, Bhupinder Singh (32) sonof Karan Singh, a resident ofTral (Srinagar) and two passen-gers of Mahindra vehicle name-ly Satyender (48) and GharSingh (28).
Two youths were injuredhere in Kacchi Chawani areawhen the bike they were goingon, was hit by a mini-bus. Theinjured have been identified asVarun (20) son of RakeshSlathia and Susheel (20) son ofRavi, both residents of
Panjtirthi. In another mishap, two
bike-borne youth were injuredwhen their two-wheeler gotslipped here in Bakshi Nagararea. The injured have beenidentified as Ashu (26) son ofMahraj Kishan Butt and Vikas(30) son of Susheel Choudhary,both residents of Muthi.
A pedestrian identified asDheeraj Singh (72) son ofBalwant Singh, a resident ofNanak Nagar, Jammu, also gotinjured, when an unknown carhit him while crossing a roadnear Marble Market, TrikutaNagar.
A 30-year-old youth identi-fied as Joginder Kumar (30)son of Girdhari Lal, a residentof Batehra, also sufferedinjuries when the bike he wasriding on, got slipped at Patoliarea of city outskirts.
All the injured were shiftedto Government MedicalCollege and Hospital, Jammufor treatment. In all cases, theconcerned police have takencognizance.

An official said here thatthe event started with a liveoperative workshop on August19 at JLNM HospitalRainawari by masters of thecraft including Prof MuneerKhan, Prof RK Chrungoo, ProfNisar Chowdri, Dr AnilSharma, Dr Shiva K Misra, DrManish Baijal and Dr ArvindKumar.
Eminent Faculty of theState chaired various sessionsof the operative workshop.
The inaugural ceremonywas held at Auditorium ofGovernment Dental College.The Minister for Health,Medical Education, ARI andTrainings Lal Singh was thechief guest. Minister of Statefor Health and Social welfareAsiya Naqash and SecretaryAssociation of Surgeons ofIndia Dr Shiva K Misra werethe guests of honour, he said.
The chief guest in his lec-ture appreciated the efforts ofthe organizing secretaries andadvised to isolate black sheepin the medical fraternity. HC directs deportation of Pak national

SRINAGAR, Aug 22: HighCourt today dismissed theappeal of Government seekingmaximum period of punishmentto one Saqib Aziz Malik ofMultan Pakistan and directedthe authorities to deport him inaccordance with law.
Justice MH Attar directedthe authorities to take immediatesteps for deportation of therespondent (Malik) who ispresently lodged in Hira Nagarjail in accordance with law.Court also granted liberty toMalik for seeking compensationfrom the authorities for keepinghim behind the bars after spend-ing more time in jail against theForeigners Act.
Malik was arrested by Armypersonnel in the year 2006 whilecrossing the border and was putin the jail. The trial court onMay 2012 held him guilty forcommission of offence u/s 14 ofForeigners Act and accordinglyconvicted him.
"The period of detentionalready undergone by the con-vict till date, shall be set offagainst the term of imprison-ment so imposed. TheGovernment is further directedto take steps for regulating hispresence after expiry of periodof sentence in case by that time
convict is not repatriated back tohis native country on expiry ofperiod of sentence", trial courthad said in its judgment.
Since Malik had alreadyspent the punishment u/s 14 ofForeigners Act when the judg-ment of trial court came as suchhe was supposed to be deportedto his native country as the trialcourt had also observed in itsjudgment.
Counsel for the appellantsubmitted that maximum periodof punishment provided u/s 14of the Foreigners Act is 5 years.He also submitted that at thetime the appeal was filed, therespondent has already complet-ed 5 years of imprisonment. Hefurther submitted that the matterhas been taken up with the LawDepartment and HomeDepartment for taking steps fol-lowed by deportation of therespondent - a foreigner.
He further submitted thatthis appeal be disposed of. Thetrial court had convicted andsentenced the respondent toundergo 4 years of imprison-ment for having committedoffence u/s 14 of Foreigners Act.This appeal is filed for enhance-ment of the punishment. In theadmitted fact situation of thiscase, the respondent hasremained in custody of theappellant for more than 5 years.

Army organizes medical-cum-veterinary camp

SAMBA, Aug 22: Army’sRising Star Brigade organized amedical-cum-veterinary campfor the people dwelling in bor-der areas of Chak Salariyan inthe Ramgarh Sector.
This camp was organized onAugust 19 under Rising StarCorps.
Brigadier Prem Jit Singh,Commander Rising Star Brigadeinaugurated the camp and inter-acted with the village heads ofRamgarh Region. A team of onemedical officer and two veteri-nary doctors from Army and thelocal heath administration wascreated to the need of hundredsof locals along with their livestock.
The occasion also providedan opportunity to spread aware-
ness amongst the locals aboutthe importance of ongoingnational level flagship cam-paigns viz Swachh BharatAbhiyan, Pradhan MantriSuraksha Bima Yojna and BetiBachao Beti Padhao.
The Army in close associa-tion with the local Post Officesfacilitated opening of SukanyaAccounts as part of girl childempowerment. In addition, thelocal youth were motivated tojoin the noble profession ofIndian Army by providing indepth knowledge of recruitmentavenues.
The local Army veteranswere made aware of AadharCard linked “Jeevan PramaanYojna” to ameliorate their needfor tendering an annual life cer-tificate.

The camp was inauguratedby MLA Akhnoor, RajeevSharma, accompanied by BlockDevelopment Officer (BDO)Akhnoor, Dr Punika Pandita inthe presence of Kunal Kak,Cluster Head, HDFC Bank Ltdand Anshu Gupta, AkhnoorBranch Manager.

SRINAGAR, Aug 22:Police today said a teenage girlcommitted suicide in northKashmir's Kupwara district.
A police spokesman saidthat a 17 year-old committedsuicide by consuming some poi-sonous substance at her home inKalaroos area of the district.
"She was shifted to DistrictHospital Kupwara for treatmentwhere she breathed her last.Police have registered a case inthis regard," the policespokesman added.

Boy drowns in canalExcelsior Correspondent
KATHUA, Aug 22: A sevenyear old child drowned inKathua canal here this evening.
The boy was identified asBishen Choudhary, son ofKuldeep Choudhary of Ward16. He had gone to take a bathalong with other child in theKathua canal this evening andlater did not return home.
After his family memberswent to search him andenquired from the boy who wasaccompanying him, they wereinformed that he drowned in thecanal. His colleague said that hetried his best to save him butcould not do due to strong cur-rent of water.
The administration hasstopped the water of the canal tosearch the boy tomorrow morn-ing.
Kathua Police has registereda case in this regard.
